Default Religious question about suicide

Since suicide is considered a sin, what is it if you were in a burning highrise building and no way out, do you jump out window and commit suicide or stay and suffer immensely.

In Gods eyes is it really suicide?

Question What is the meaning of pain?

Most of the ethics of christianity is Aristotle based. It is rational for a good ending to jump out the window. Only an irrational man would suffer PAIN deliberately.

If anyone who commits suicide has at some time accepted Jesus' death on the cross as payment for their sins and asked Him into their life, they are forgiven.

I cannot accept that just by accepting Jesus you are guaranteed salvation even if you keep on sinning for the rest of your life. You don't have to do any good whatsover; what is important is that you accept Jesus as God and you are essentially getting a 'Get out of jail' card free! No wonder the christian world has been experiencing a moral crisis with gay churches etc etc virtually anything goes...

I'd rather agree with the Islamic concept of personal responsibilty. You get what you do...you are responsible for your own sins before God. No one bears your sins for you...not Jesus..not the priest..not anyone.

OK, just for the sake of argument, if your life, because of your illness, was putting a huge burden on your loved ones, which would be the more Chirst-like thing to do.....continue to live, or take your own life?

It would be suicide to stay in the burning building, right? I couldn't blame someone for wanting to escape the flames.

I can't imagine the state of mind you'd be in if you were facing death by being burned alive. A few people did jump to their deaths on 9/11. This really doesn't seem like suicide because they certainly wouldn't have chosen to do it if they weren't in those circumstances. They just chose a less painful death because there wasn't an option in which they could survive.

The sin of suicide is not so much the action as it is the intent. In other words, most people who commit suicide are trying to end a stressfilled life by killing themselves. People who would jump out of a highrise are not so much trying to kill themselves, they are looking for another way out of a situation. We all know how fire feels when you touch it so they imagine that all over their body, so they would almost take the chance of dying hitting the ground rather certainly dying by flames. So in short I would say its not a sin if you are going to die regardless, but it is a sin when you have another way other than to die. Sorry a little confusing

Does the Bible really say that suicide is a sin?

Other than "man cannot take what he cannot give." I can't think of one right now.

(I have a cousin that used that scripture to get out of milking the cow before school. so scripture can be twisted, if you want to bad enough)
