One of the great things about America is freedom of religion. I thought the OP was just curious on why are you an atheist to get a little insight to atheists, however reading his/her post, I can see its just another ignorant person trying to convince and force his ideals on someone else. This was already done many years ago...and its called the Crusades.
Maybe we should ask you....why do you believe in God...someone who lets his priests and other "holy followers" take advantage of their positions and prey on innocent children?

You can't miss an opportunity to misread, can you?
My reply was to Lindsey McFerrin who expressed a strong desire to get away from Christians.
So the natural question is 'What are you doing hanging around in a Religion forum?'
I have never wished to 'get away' from atheists, agnostics, or others who don't share my beliefs.
Neither is the thread listed as only open to atheists. (If that were the case, the OP could not have started it in the first place. Had you thought of that?)
So your question is quite a non sequitur.
Thanks for playing.
(Considering you reading skills sanspeur, please tell me that you don't hold a position of great responsibility. )
Hope you're having a great day, my friend.

You would be very lonely if you waited for others who share your beliefs. Not really that many of the narrow minded around.

Yeah actually it does Nea1.
Lots of countries would allow atheists to be killed.
In America they have freedom to believe as they wish.
Which place would you rather live in?

I meant more of the shape of our country, it's downfall we have been going through. The constant use of money ,greed and power to control it. The Religious kills the non believers or those that believe different, nice. Gotta love that religion!!

I'd compare the number of atheists in the USA killed by religionists against the number of Christians killed by Communists in the past century.
Which number do you think is larger?
The atheistic regimes of Soviet Russia, China, Cambodia, North Korea are responsible for tens of millions of deaths of their own citizens (perhaps more).
Millions of people want to flee to America. You don't see them fleeing to communist countries in large numbers, only a few kooks.

I have read that a large percentage of Russians are Orthodox and then Muslim and others and North Korea followed Buddhism along with China and Cambodia. I don't see that as Atheism.

You do know that Communism is atheistic, don't you?
You do know that millions of citizens of these countries have perished at the hands of their own government, don't you?
