Forgot to mention....I believe ALL Christians should read the Bible and study it DAILY. It is a blessing to own our Bibles and have access to the wonderful Bible Studies, Commentaries and helps.

However, there have been millions of Christians who never owned a Bible. There are Christians in countries over the years where it was a crime to own a Bible in the 20th century and throughout history. Of course, there were Christians all through the centuries that never a copy of the scriptures - only the Catholic church had hand penned scriptures.

How blessed are we to live in this day and age!

Brother Dave is on a distinguished road
Dear sons and daughters of God in our Living Master Jesus Christ,

There is a serious division among many sincere Christians as to who or what is "the Word of God".

Let us now look carefully at John 1:1

IF the Word of God is the Bible, then we can put "Bible" in John 1:1 where we read "Word", and see what we get in Spirit and in Truth:

In the beginning was the Bible. (OK, an eternal Truth Bible maybe)

and the Bible was with God (OK, always existent on Paradise maybe)

and the BIBLE WAS GOD. (WHOA ! Blasphemy ! God is not 1200
pages of fast rotting paper and ink !)

ONLY OUR LIVING GODMAN JESUS CHRIST IS OUR LIVING WORD OF GOD !

NONE OTHER ! FOLLOW HIM AS YOUR ONLY TRUE AUTHORITY !

Now read again the very important John 16:7-16 and see that even the chosen Apostles of Jesus were very confused and short of the Infinite Truth in/as Jesus ! Jesus wanted to teach them much more Truth, BUT they each and all were NOT READY !

So how do we receive Truth in Spirit today and always since AD30 ?

HE (not a mere "it") the Spirit of Truth (Who is just like Jesus and just like God and One in Spirit !) is freely poured out upon all flesh to lead each of us believers into the All Truth of God ! Amen ! Follow HIM !

In the future more and more sincere Christians will be eclectic exegetes (cafeteria Christians) in believing and teaching only the best portions of the Bibles in the spiritual liberty given to each of us by our Sovereign GODMAN JESUS !

Peace and progress into All Truth,

Your Jesusonian Brother Dave

Brother Dave,
A careful reading of John 1:1 shows that the WORD IS Jesus - it is not referring to the scriptures (or Bible) in that passage.

Jhn 1:1
IN the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Jhn 1:2
He was in the beginning with God.
Jhn 1:3
All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
Jhn 1:4
In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
Jhn 1:5
And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

I believe that is correct, In the beginning was Jesus and Jesus with God and He was God.
That's why John wrote this so we could build faith and have confidence in Jesus and know that He truly was and is the Son of God.

I seldom pipe up on religious threads, but I'd like to participate here.

I think the Bible is a good book, but I don't think it's the word of God. I don't think anyone is capable, insipred or not, of containing God's Word in a book.

My relationship with God is a very private matter. The only time I truly pray is behind closed doors. I just can't do it in a church. I seldom discuss it with anyone, including my husband. But I will say, I see God everywhere I look. I think He talks to us all the time, but I don't think we do a very good job of listening. Does this thinking make me less of a Christian? I don't think so. Either way, I am a child of God. I am part of His Plan, I am a part of His Creation, as is everyone else on the planet. IMHO, to label a human being as 'saved' or 'damned' makes a mockery of God and the very reason Jesus died for us.

I'm not a 'cafeteria Christian.' I am the Christian that God made me. My knowledge of God isn't something that I was ever taught in church or by my parents. It is deeply intrinsic. It is my Rock. It isn't something I found in the Bible, and it isn't something I came up with in my intellect. Yet, it is very real to me, and I carry it everywhere I go. My faith springs from this.
