Perhaps because hatred knows no bounds, regardless of religious belief.

Because God's Word is a threat to their society and they way they want their followers to believe. They are afraid that God (and Jesus) will make themselves know to the people, therefore causing a HUGE uprising in their efforts, doctrines and beliefs as well as their agendas. They are afraid that if God's Word (and the Deity of Jesus Christ) gets out, they will lose the army they have recruited for their cause!
