Having been Catholic and known a few priests personally, I'd put it at closer to 75%. And nuns? Mostly lesbians.
For many Catholic gay men, their only option is to become a priest rather than dishonor their family by coming out. It's a great place to hide from sexual disfunction - and by disfunction, I mean for men not able to deal with their own homosexuality.
Definitly, a problem ain't it?
Hence Pauls warnings!
So what now? How to address the problem?
How about opening up an avenue for gays, or potential gays to feel free to enlist in a program of help?
If a priest or any other person is gay or has gay tendencies, should there be a source of help without conemning the individual?
After all, we all are humans subject to the same fleshly lusts, save the love of God save us from them.
We must first be willing to get help, then God will see to it that help is given.
It seems that the bible quotes that people tend to use to condem homosexual activity have nothing to do with the love between two mature adults.
Even if they were they should be looked at in the light of what modern day science says which is that people are born either straight or gay.
In the fourth century St. Augustine said that if a biblical text contradicted science, believers had to find a new interpretation of that text.
Yes, but I want to make this distinction, there is Innocent ignorance verses willful ignorance.
What I mean by willful ignorance is ignoring the conscience, (Bigotry)verses being totally honestly ignorant.(Innocence)
And example would be, of willfully, an organization that would do harm to others for motives other than good.
While the innocence, would be one just not having the right information, as would be as you said, educating of self.
The Jewish nation is one true example of innocence, for God blinded them by their own strictness of the law.
Blessings, AJ
In my view, the problem is...there is SO much information easily available from reputable sources on the net these days, it's hard to believe that any ignorance of the "facts"about homsexuality and sexual orientation is anything other than "wilful" ignorance based on indoctrinated prejudice. And usually religious prejudice at that.
I have a problem with those anti-gay Christians who claim that they "love" homosexuals on one hand, then condemn them as "vile sexual perverts" on the other. Who don't bother to use the many resources available to educate themselves on what sexual orientation actually is. Who don't bother to get to really know any gay people. And who don't bother to research for themselves what the Bible actually says (in context) about any same-gender sex acts.
