Okay, I'm curious, and I'll give my own reasons too. What are people's reasons for coming to this forum?
Is it to debate, get new ideas, because some topics just seem like "hot" topics, or whatever reason?
I don't think most of us come here to just discuss our beliefs with others who share our beliefs, or to share our joys in our respective beliefs or lack thereof, because if that's what we wanted, then atheists would go to an atheism board, Christians would go to a Christan board, people interested in evolution would go to an evolution board, etc.
I personally come here because I started over on Politics & Other Controversies and there were tons of religious threads there at the time. Then I left for a bit an came back and discovered there was a board specifically for religion.
I knew it would be a lot of debating and a lot of controversies. Actually, if we're honest with ourselves, I'm sure we even knew religious threads would be controversial back when they were allowed on P&OC, since we would have chosen a board with the word "controversies" in it to post these threads on.
My reason is that I'm always searching for a way to get in touch with God. So I have tons of questions and want and need other people's input. I'm not Christian and have a lot of cultural guilt and fear over that because sometimes it's been said to me that if I don't believe in Jesus, then I don't know God and that's that. So I often get all heated up over posts.
I also wonder, rather guiltily, whether I'm sort of "spouting off on" people's posts at times because they remind me of things that have been said to me or in my presence IRL. So that's probably a motivation as well...to give my "rebuttal" that I can't make IRL because it's much harder when it's, say, a relative who might never forgive you, than a stranger. It's hard, though, to guard against immediate defensiveness and therefore trying to "bite back" when the poster might be anywhere near as judgemental as I'm assuming...
What's everyone else's reason? If you care to share.

I am a christian. I come here because I feel that it is my duty as a christian to tell other people (non-believers) about GOD. The bible tells children of Christ that it is out JOB. I want to share my experiences about GOD and the great things that have happened to me because of my faith. I can not imagine life without a relationship with GOD.
Over the years, my spiritual relationship has been better and better. Looking back, I can say that life has been 100% perfected due to my faith. I want you and all of my other brothers and sisters in Christ to see, feel, live and have the relationship with the lord that I do.
Anyone who calls themself a Christian and truly is a Christian, doesnt come here for the grin's of starting an argument. It is because it is their duty as a Christian to tell you about the lord and a Godly life on earth.
I seek the truth and the easiest way to do it is to get as much information as possible from as many sources as possible
I do like to debate my take on things and am not afraid to back down when proven wrong
I am also not afraid to ask questions from others religions as well as those in my own
Knowledge is power
The Bible says, "Despise not prophesyings. Prove all things; hold fast that is true." -1 Thessalonians 5:20-21
I think I may have to go into some type of 12-step program for it!
Seriously, I don't know. I find it just very enjoyable to interact with everybody. Interesting to find out what others think too. I started out looking at CD while at work. I'm a receptionist and I have a lot of "downtime" in my job. My manager doesn't care if I read or access the internet or whatever...just as long as I answer the phone, greet and handle my other duties. So...I come here to alleviate boredom there. But then I would find myself logging on at home too-like right now. Someone might say, "don't you have a life?" Yes, I do actually! But for whatever reason, I find CD forum pretty fascinating.
And as far as the religious thread goes, as was said above, you hope that you might have something positive to contribute that would help someone on their spiritual journey too.

Ditto Kaykay,
except I am working from home, and some days I have more downtime than others.
Monday I should really be on here since I have to go to Jackson and hold dh hand all the way down there.
I feel drawn to this board, to learn more about my faith, to learn about people, to make acquaintances, to hope that just maybe something I can contribute will connect with someone searching for answers, to debate with all you guys and let you know that if you are nice, I will learn to like you christian or not.
Well, I too, am addicted to CD forums, and I like Hoozier and I thought i would swing on by his place...and I like it in here. I miss church. Although I don't like to read the 'There is no God, or 'Why do you think there is a God' posts...I just kinda click on what I think I would be interested in...
That's a good question. I liked KayKay's answer and that's the one I relate to the most, except my job is hectic and no down time. I have not been a very good Christian for many, many years and I felt I needed to start doing what God requires of me when I re-dedicated my life to Christ. I never was secure as far as whether or not I was going to heaven, and that's not an easy thing to live with. Now, I have no doubts and that's a great feeling.
I love the Lord for saving me, and I want everyone to experience this feeling. But I have used the board for other things, like testing theories and gathering information for research on a book. That part is over, I'm just here now because I really do want to spread God's word and I have grown to like and respect some of the folks here. I think it's good for us to discuss our differences, even if it gets heated. The Mods are here to calm us down!!
