How the Soul works?
Yesterday while I was lying in this long tube getting an MRI I had a lot of time to think and pray. A few questions came to mind that I cannot figure out. As humans we are made up of body, mind and soul.
- When a person's body dies how is the soul is released?
- How does the soul stay intact with the body 'til the body can no longer function?
- When the soul is released are we immediately in the presence of God or the devil? Or are we escorted to our eternal home or prison?

Geez Hoosier, talk about a deep one!
As to your 1st 2 questions, I can't even begin to fathom how I would know or pretend to know the answers to those!!
As to your last question, it is my personal belief that, in so many words, we sleep after death, until the Final Judgement, when all will awake to be judged before God. If I am wrong then it goes something like this: someone dies, goes to heaven or hell without judgement, then when the judgement does happen they are pulled from heaven/hell to then be judged, and then put back or sent to the correct afterlife facility.
IMHO!

The secret things again...
Well, seems like I keep repeating the scripture ILNC posted a couple of days ago:
Deuteronomy 29:29 ASB "The secret things belong unto Jehovah our God; but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children for ever..."

Yeah it is deep. I think WAY too much sometimes. Thank goodness for my outlet here in CD where I can take it out of my head and hope for some intelligent interaction to help me sort it all out.
In regards to judgement there is the Judgement seat of Christ that we will all stand before.

You are a parent right? Always repeating yourself and never being heard? That is an excellent Scripture and honestly I don't know that my questions can be answered, it's just an interesting thought...at least to me.

Yes! LOL! I just love to throw in this scripture, though, when there is no answer we can definitively give!!!
BTW-
No more MRI's for you, Hoosier! (Of course, that would probably be a good thing anyway, right?!)

It all depends on the results of last night's test. But hey I have time to think and pray...no matter how loud it is in those machines!
One thing that came to mind when I thought of this thread was a show that was on TV about 5 years ago where when you died there was a guy who was an angel and helped you through to the other side. You stood before judge Othniel...instead of Christ. Interesting show, but went off the air.

Hoosier,
My brain is too fried today to even attempt to tackle those questions...don't ask-long night.
Just wanted to tell you that I will be praying for you regarding the MRI results!

I hope that this comment is not too far off topic, but something struck me as I was reading the thread.
Christians seem to be ask this type of question, a "how does it work" scenario, and be satisfied with answers that come from the bible.
Atheists would never be satisfied with this. Most atheists would want to take a more scientific method to this.
--First you would have to define a soul,
--then you would need to collect evidence that the soul exists.
--After you collected the evidence, you would then need to measure the effects on the body to detect the presence of the soul in order to determine when it arrives/leaves.
--After that, a means of tracking the soul would need to be developed.
--etc.
Obviously I am speaking about both christians and atheists in very general, sweeping terms. I do think that it is illustrative of the differences between the groups though.

Actually I believe you are right on target. This is just as much a scientific question as spiritual. There has to be some sort of switch or something that turns off when we die..thus it releases the soul. That is the scientific part IMO. If you're a Trekkie I think of Data from TNG who had an off switch in the back. Granted that is far fetched when talking about a soul, but that was another thought when considering how the soul leaves the body.
