Hey.
The tower of Babel just came to mind.
Didn't God not want people to communicate with each other, get along, and intermarry?
Or, do we think the tower has no application for this day, somehow?
Now, I have to say, I am a believer in the deity, but not necessarily the Old Testiment version because to me, this guy often seems dysfunctional.

In my view, Christians should not mary outside of their faith, but the color of someones skin is irrelevant.

I read somewhere about mixed religious marriages.
It said two people with the same religion, but differing senses of committment, have a higher probability of divorce than two people of different faiths, but with the same degree of dedication to their religion.
At first, it seemed counter intuitive, but when I think of it, it makes sense.
So much in marriage, I think, depends on respect for each other. It is easier to respect someone who loves God as much as you do, allbeit differently, than it would be if you were a devoted follower and your spouse only attended services once a year and told the kids that whichever religious book you believed in contained myths.
I worked with some Orthodox Jewish people and spent many wonderful lunchtimes discussing religion with them. It was an enlightening and eye-opening experience for me, and much preferred to conversations with fellow Christians who really believed that Christ was born on Christmas and that Christmas trees were taken from pagan celebrations.

Well I'm Black...and I'm an Orthodox Jew. We strongly believe that Jews should only marry other Jews. I have not seen a ton of Black Jews here in the U.S. So I can't really have any issues with interracial marriage. What is race anyway? It does not determine what type of person you are, or even what type of culture you have. For example...my paternal Grandmother was 100% East Indian (both parents from Calcutta, India). But both parents were dead by the time she was 13 and she's grown up in the Black community pretty much. So doesn't know about India or speak Bengali or anything like that. So the only thing her "race" was, was a DNA pattern.

IIRC God feared the fact that the people all worked like 1 team so they could build the tower of Babel. Since the people all spoke 1 language they could communicate easily with each other. That is why God destroyed it and cursed the people to speak different languages so they could not communicate with each other anymore.
God used the divide and conquer strategy.

I think the world is becoming a dangerous place because of the exclusivity that seems to follow monotheistic religions.
Someone posted an article on another site that I found interesting:
Scholars try to reconcile 'problematic' religious texts - Los Angeles Times Scholars try to reconcile 'problematic' religious texts

Yes. It really seems here that the god mentioned is a being of sorts and not the ultimate creator: that he was vulnerable in some way and fearful of human accomplishment.

Does Your Religious Belief Affect Your View Of Interracial Marriage?
|
I would have to say that it does influence this because I know that God is the originator of all men. We are all His offspring and He is more concerned about our hearts than our skin color or racial features. Jesus died for all men and is the Savior of all men. Other things have influenced my view are my experiences and knowledge. When I was growing up though, my family discouraged racial unions, marriages out of fear mainly because of the history between the black and white races in the US. It just wasn't done in the day and I remember as a child pointing to or staring at interracial couples. When I was seen in a photo with a guy from another race as a young adult, (and we weren't dating), my mother became upset although she didn't tell me. I found out later. And then when I did date someone outside of my race and the relationship went bad, she told the person, "Why don't you find some nice girl of your own race!" But this was said out of fear as opposed to hate. I think that some disagree because of the struggles that the couples will face especially in some areas where prejudice is still prevalent in subtle and non subtle ways. God bless.
