These girls should join the Jehovias witness protection program. They go door-to-door telling people that they are somebody else

Bummer though when you get to the pearly gates and St. Peter asks "do you remember when my boss and I came to your house one evening in the guise of two young women?"

They are Moonies (remember Rev. Sun Myung Moon?) or the current day version of them.

A pair came to my door last fall, female, and the only reason I listened as long as I did was because the one speaking was attractive in a simple way, and had such a nice voice -- as if trained to use specific tones and inflections.

Left her name -- Rebecca -- and a web site: WATV - World Mission Society Church of God

Normie,

The tone of your post was very condescending and arrogant. There are WAY too many arrogant people in the D.C. area. What makes you guys ANY better than anybody else? Get over yourselves. It seems to me some of the posters on here could use some religion in their lives. Use your judgement, be polite, and just let them know that you already belong to a church or you are not a Christian and don't want to be. It's as easy as that. So many people in this are have their guard up just waiting to be screwed by their neighbor or somebody else. Be polite, be neighborly, and stop being so damn suspicious! Damn

What a polite post!

Also, the original post is two years old, and Normie is no longer on this forum.

Going door to door is frowned upon out here. People hate being asked to buy/donate/convert to anything.

We never answer the door unless we're expecting someone. You can say that's paranoid, but google about the family in Cheshire, CT, and then tell me I'm paranoid.

I agree with the bolded. I never answer the door unless I know who it is and I'm personally expecting the visit. I've done that everywhere I've lived, not just in the DC area. I'm not a fan of uninvited guests. Besides, I don't see anything arrogant about not wanting random strangers knocking on your door at 9 at night, and it's presumptuous of people to think that kind of behavior is ok. Why should someone feel badly about not wanting to feel imposed upon in their own home?

Actually, I believe the WMSCoG is different from Moon's Unification Church, though equally as outside any sense of historical Christian tradition. WMSCoG claims to be a Christian group and will use language and verses appearing so, but would differ with 2000 years of the faith on the core understandings of Theology Proper, Christology, soteriology, pneumatology, eschatology, etc. Their big verse that they build their whole movement around ("Heavenly Mother" / "God the Mother") is from Gal. 4:26 (which actually reads " But the Jerusalem above is free; she is our mother."), despite the fact that two verses earlier Paul explicitly says "These things are being taken figuratively" as he begins to make a point about law and grace. Astonishing.

Anyway, it's very sad they would be sending young women out late at night to go door-to-door.

In terms of people knocking on your door to either sell you something, long ago I learned a handy little trick. Take a label maker and print out "No Solicitors" and stick it right above the door bell. If they ring, they've been warned of the reaction. Here, since we're in a new neighborhood still under construction, we get the ADT, fence/deck (even though I already have both), yard, handyman, furniture, you name it, roaming through the neighborhood. It drives me insane. Since I put the discrete sticker out though, 99% of it has stopped.

In Chicago, we lived about a block from the main Catholic church of our small suburbian town. Rang that church bell every 15 minutes (drove us nuts), and would raom the neighborhood going door-door for membership drives and to save our souls (for money, of course). I got so sick of it, and they wouldn't stop, that I decided to have a little fun. "Ding-dong - hello sir, I'm here to educate you on how to live your life in a meaningful and dignified manner in the eyes of the lord. May I ask what that sound it coming from your pocket?" Response: "Oh, yeah, sorry, forgot to turn down the porn on my iphone, here, can you hold my budweiser for a second?". Slam....

One of my favorites, and I'm sure earned my ticket on the southern train towards the hot side of eternity - after spending $100 within 20 minutes from going to the store and back on donations to the guys at the innersections, out front of the grocery store, and roaming the gas station, all to save lives, I was a little tired of feeling guilty for (1) being white, being wealthy, being healthy, driving a Lexus. Got home finally, sat down on the couch to watch a football game when the door bell rang. I was ticked! We had a glass door, I could see them, and they could see me, and they weren't leaving. So, when I opened the door, he started in on saving the 3rd world population for a $30 donation. I was tapped out of cash. That's when he said they take check too. I snapped - said "yeah, but if I give you a check, then who'll make my shoes and my ipad?" Slammed the door and said through the glass "sorry, but guilt isn't one my strengths!"

We moved here before I could get really creative. I was waiting for one of the bible thumpers to return, whereby I had Ozzy Osborn que'd up on the stereo, a glass of fruit punch in one hand, and one of my daughter's headless Barbie dolls in the other. You can probably figure out the rest, but it was going to be epic!

Now, before you all jump down my throat for being mean - I donated a boat load of money too. Just, on my terms, and during normal business hours.

We've been meaning to put one of those up, if we can find one in brass. Maybe if I can find one that says "By Ringing the Bell, You Give Permission to Be Attacked by Dog on Premises."

(That attack would probably end up being mostly licking, but no need for them to know that!)

I also want to have a cutesy embroidered sign made to put over our leather couch, in country blue, with little piggies and geese frolicking around the message: "For God's Sake, Keep Your Nasty Feet Off Our Furniture. Were You Born in a Barn? This is Our Home, Not the Airport." The wife and I are positively flummoxed by guests who do this in our home.
