Pastor's Ex-Wife Claimed 'Vicious' Abuse | US National Headlines | Comcast.net (http://www.comcast.net/articles/news-national/20100930/.pastorswifeabuse/ - broken link)

"The ex-wife of Bishop Eddie Long claimed he abused her in their 1985 divorce proceedings. Long is under scrunity after four young men from his New Birth Missionary Baptist Church accused him of coercing them sexually.

Court documents from his 1985 divorce proceedings with ex-wife Dabara Houston show that Houston claimed Long had a "vicious and violent temper" during their marriage.

The documents claim that Long beat her with his fists while she was 7 1/2 months pregnant with their son. The couple divorced in 1985 and court documents claim that Houston fled with their son out of fear.

Earlier this month, three members of Long’s congregation in Atlanta and a fourth party from North Carolina filed lawsuits alleging that Long coerced the then-teenage boys into sexual relations by promising cash, cars and travel.

He has publicly denied all wrong doing and believes he is under attack. Many members of his Atlanta congregation are standing by Long.

Long turned a small congregation of 150 into 25,000 avid followers. The increase in church members and subsequent donations led to the building of a $50 million cathedral and an impressive list of church members including politicians, entertainers and athletes."

He is just one of many. Every week it seems there's some story about "inappropriate" behavior by some sort of pastor/priest/whatever.

The first word that comes to mind when I hear or read "pastor" is "creepy". You almost have to be a little bent in the first place to be a pastor; either that or a con man interested in tax free earnings - taking advantage of a gullible population.

I don't believe anyone has ever made more jokes about the church than Bill Maher. He's an agnostic. He says, "I Don't Know."

I don't know either but whatever there might be you can bet your arse remains rising up from the grave and floating on a cloud with Hey Zeus won't be part of it.

If more ministers just lived their lives without some book to dictate the do's and don'ts, we'd have far less of this crap going on. But they gotta keep the image clean so all that stuff on the inside stays bottled.
