If you believe that you cease to exist after you die, and will never see your family and friends ever again, that makes you "happy?"

Obviously you would meet St. Peter at the Pearly gates, and he reads a book of life to you, or somethin'. But due to the fact that you are an Atheist, it means a eternal ticket to the firery palace of doom. And you'll probably meet interesting people there. Mark Twain and Ghandi for sure!
I think your supposed to be in endless torture and pain....So watch it!

Man also built cities and homes in areas affected by earthquakes, hurricanes and tsunamis.
Sometimes children do things a loving father doesn't know about. We are responsible for our lives.
You may or may not have suffered in a previous life. You can't say for sure that you didn't because you don't really know. It is erased from our memories before we are born.
And I am still waiting for the scientific proof that there is no God. Of course, those with faith don't need "proof."
Not only does God move in mysterious ways, so do we when we plan our lives before we are born. In one of the many books on the afterlife, a person who had a NDE (near death experience) asked someone in the afterlife what it's like to be dead. She replied, "You are the one who is dead."
So do I. I hope all the believers realize that there is an afterlife and that it is our real home. Our time on earth is just a brief moment compared to an eternity in the afterlife. And once you get there you will understand.
How do you know that? More accurate to say that there are many who lack faith, which is sad.

Yes, I know. Are you always that way?
So tell me, if there is no God, who is responsible for all of the suffering and pain in the world?
According to you, it is not us because we would never give ourselves suffering and pain. Someone must be responsible.

I do believe humans are responsible for war and a lot of pain and suffering but then again I don't believe in a loving god who is omnipotent and omniscient and sits on his butt whilst his children suffer. People don't inflict pain on themselves , they like inflicting it on others. Christians believe that their creator can see and know all and yet he/she allows the death, pain and misery of its children just because he/she does not want to intervene. My father would have never allowed me to suffer had he been able to prevent it and he certainly would not have allowed me to inflict suffering on others. What a god of love and compassion indeed. Free agency is another word for passive in that context. To create something so imperfect and still gloat and expect people to worship and follow you , wow that really is twisted. To know horrors would unfold unto the innocent and the vulnerable and let it happen as I said who needs enemies with a deity of such breath-taking self "agrandissing", callous and careless selfishness on your side. But thank you once again for confirming my atheism. Your rethoric is yet another nail in the coffin for Christianity for me. So much for spreading the truth .
And don't tell me what my real home is, you have the right to believe what you wish but don't try to impose your myths and superstition on me. Worm food sounds good to me. You are quite right , I have no proof god does not exist, but then again I don't claim to, like Christians who claim the "proof" is there for all to see. Where ? It would be very hard to prove the lack of existence of something as by definition there isn't one. If something doesn't exist , physical evidence does not exist . Laws of physics. But then again I am probably talking to someone who believes in creationism. However you believe god exists and yet no physical proof for him.

To YOU it means that it is an "eternal ticket to the fiery palace of doom", to me it doesnt mean anything.... Since i dont believe in God, Heaven, OR Hell when i die i'm not going anywhere but in the ground.

So are you saying your beliefs create your reality? Or is it perhaps that reality is unaffected by our beliefs?
P.S. (Unless I'm mistaken) Trebek doesn't believe in hell, he was stating the common belief held by most Christians.

What makes me "sad" is the thought that too many of us are here arguing about non-exsistence and hell and not a lot of christians have responded to the the thread Giving back and Volunteering. Don't get me wrong, I am a FIRM atheist, but having been raised in a church one thing I remember positive is the DUTY to give back and perform good works. There must not be many Methodists here.

Well if Trebek doesnt believe in hell and it was just a statement about the common belief held by most Christians then the YOU (in my original statement) can be targeted towards Christians that have that belief and not Trebek.
