Not to put too fine a point on it: He's right. I don't know how anyone could read the New Testament and come to any other conclusion. Studying the Bible, and especially the New Testament, was what probably the single largest deciding factor in my own conversion.
Well, doesn't seem to be a departure from what the Catholic Church has always believed. He is entitled to his opinion. Of course, as a Protestant, I disagree.
“Christ ‘established here on earth’ only one church,” the document said. The other communities “cannot be called ‘churches’ in the proper sense” because they do not have apostolic succession — the ability to trace their bishops back to Christ’s original apostles.
What a load! The church is not a building, denomination, or doctrine. The body of Christ is His followers! The Pope has proven that he knows nothing about following Christ, and what the "church" truly is, judging him by this statement anyway. IMO, of course.
but I don't think he's necessariliy setting in that 'one church'.
The 'one church' that Jesus established doesn't have walls and stained glass, it's the union of the believers of Jesus Christ. Catholics have as many issues as Baptists as Charismatics as Presbyterians as Universalists......well.....universalists???...let 's not go too far now!
Sorry about that!
Anyway, the body of Christ IS the church. We're family, why don't we act like it?

I too believe that the church is the followers of Christ, and it states that in the Bible.
That being said, and this is strictly my own personal opinion, no flames here please.
When end times come, there is going to be one World Government and one World Religion/Church. It has always been my belief that the setting Pope will be head of the World Religion during this time.
After reading the article, and seeing what he believes, and what the church stands for, I can see it even plainer now.
No offense to any current members who happen to be catholic, I have family who are as well.

Interesting thought, Angel. I can see where you would get this...not ready to proclaim it as my own belief, but it does make some sense as a possible scenario.

Did you read the statement? He isn't saying anything remotely like what you got out of that.

Well, what did you think he said, Mark S.? It seemed he said the catholic church was the only true church, did he not?
