I vote yes!
I'm disgusted that GWB keeps putting up these road blocks. He basically chose his christian beliefs over the lives of millions of Americans.
That slammed the door in the faces of millions of people who desperately need this research to go forward. Let stem cells be destroyed rather than let them find a cure for many horrible illnesses & disease in this country? What logic is that?!
I certainly hope our new president & our government can work together on this issue & proceed as we need to do-

Reading over this thread it looks like almost everyone but the White House recognized how important the Stem Cell research was.
One more prime example of government being out of step with the people. This week’s false step was to vote down the Energy Bill. Who are they working for?

I am 100% for the use of stem cells. Shame on those who have politicized the issue.

I imagine there is all kinds of stem cell research going on. It is just not subsidized by the government.

If stem cell research could help just one person it would be worth it.

Embryonic stem-cell research -- no, I don't favor it at all.
Adult stem-cell research -- no problems with that. Scientists have actually done more and gone farther with adult stem-cells than with embryonic. They are actually right now treating different problems with adult stem-cell products; whereas, embryonic stem-cells have yet to prove that they're all they're hyped up to be.
Therapeutic Uses of Stem Cells from Stem Cells by Georgia Purdom, Ph.D., molecular genetics
Quote:
"Researchers promise many cures as a result of ESCR, and the media tout a world free of Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injuries, and cancer. But, so far, these claims have gone unrealized. President Bush’s 2001 ban3 on government-supported research using new ESCs may have slowed progress in this area. Less reported in the media is that ESCs have been found to have great genetic instability (mutations and chromosomal changes) that is associated with tumor formation.4 If these ESCs are used in therapy, they could actually do more harm than good. In addition, anyone receiving these cells will need to take anti-rejection medicine their entire lives since the cells are not a genetic match.
Also underreported is the fact that doctors have currently treated more than 70 different diseases and defects using adult stem cells.5 Although adult stem cells are more difficult to find and grow in the lab, they are more genetically stable. One type of cell, the Multi-Potent Adult Progenitor Cell (MAPC), has been found that may be able to form many different cell types, such as an ESC.6 It seems that adult stem cells have great, untapped potential."

For it 100%. Americans have some catching up to do, It's no secret that they've been lagging behind in terms of research for a while now.
