Police: Priest solicited murder of boy accusing him of sex abuse - CNN.com

Is anyone truly surprised at the criminal behavior of so called men of god?

I've always wondered what type of person would want to become a priest or a pastor. There's just something about that person, can't put my finger on it, unconventional, odd, unnatural (at least for the priest - how could any healthy man want to be celibate?)

Pastors, since they live an otherwise conventional life (except they pay no taxes), seem like they run churches like businesses. If you visit the bible belt you'll find these guys competing for business. There's a church on every street corner - just like gas stations, banks, stereo shops, and supermarkets. They have to "sell" their church and often the indication of a "good pastor" is his ability to excite or entertain his congregation. "Oh, pastor bob is so good...he really rallies us on Sundays..."

The link leads to a good article, although the phrase "priestly perdition parade" reminds me of some of Spiro Agnew's verbiage (e.g., " nattering nabobs of negativism"). It is quite correct in stating the Catholic Church's doctrines concerning the priesthood "collide with biological reality".
