"God did it" is no 'explanation' at all. Just an easy way out. Since when did the Universe have to come from "nothing" just because a deity had nothing to do with it? It is much more honest intellectually to state that we simply don't know how it happened, rather than following the theological doctrines.

eanassir: You have done nothing to show that your god is more credible than anyone else's. Simply because the Quran says so means nothing to anyone other than Muslims. Posting Arabic script has no supernatural significance for me.

I suppose I should clarify: IF there is a conscious God who has, in fact, inspired the writing of holy books because this God wants rational people to believe in God for rational reasons (rather than, for example, believing in God just because one's culture or family background encourages it), then these holy books ought to inspire rational people to pursue lines of thought and empirical evidence that lead to belief in God. The Bible does not do this. The Bible offers wildly implausible stories that sound like outright fairly tales and portrays a murderous, vengeful, jealous, God who throws temper tantrums then repents. (Actually, this somewhat fits the cyclic model of domestic violence, suggesting to me that the traditional Christian God concept was inspired not by some loving Holy Spirit, but rather, by a bunch of patriarchy-embedded, manipulative, sexually-insecure males.)

The only way to accept the Bible as the literal word of God is forget about science (or assume that academically trained and respected scientists are all part of some grand conspiracy to conceal the truth of God's existence) and then avoid asking too many embarrassing rational questions. In other words, you just have to assume that somehow God has a plan and somehow all of this fairytale-ish nonsense and divine psychosis turns out to have a rational explanation. That is simply a leap that I see no good reason to take.

Science not that good? Remember that the next time you go to the doctor or have surgery or need medicine. Science behind all of it. Unless you are of the mindset that medicine is not that good either, then I guess you will heal yourself.

Science is good, that's how we have the evidence we do. If none of it was true, the evidence wouldn't even be there.
Science has plenty of things it hasn't been able to explain.

Duh...If science could explain everything there would be no need for science.

If there was a need for science, everything would need explanation. Frankly, science makes many mistakes.

It's not as infallible as some people like to claim it to be.

Who here has ever claimed that scientists are infallible? You know better than that, now you're just trolling.

The reality of life hits you most on your deathbed. And I don't imagine you'll be screaming "science!" "evolution" "no God!" on your last breathes. You'll be thinking "Oh crap." sorry to say. So put your faith in man and science at your own peril.

Here is a key point that you (and a lot of religious people) don't seem to understand. It's not about comfort. It's a matter of valuing the search for truth for its own sake.

Yet science is a self auditing process that corrects the mistakes that were once thought to be fact. It is a learning and growing process.

vs. here is a book of fables, it is cast in concrete, it must not be questioned, it must not be challenged, it is fact despite the absolute lack of supporting evidence, and growing amounts of conflicting evidence. Remember that religion taught us that the world is flat and the center of the universe. Still is huh

Science is an ongoing quest for knowledge, religion is squeezing one's eye tight shut, sticking fingers into the ears and wailing is not ........ is not .......... is not ............... is not ................................. is not...........

If you're not going to be perfect, then why bother?
