Thanks!!! Science is good, but to mislead people into believing something they are not fully reporting, is absolutely wrong!!

Regrettably this human characteristic is even more prevalent and tenacious within the religions of the world.

I happen to believe that most of evolution is probably true, but I am not about to arrogantly state that it is fact when still so many holes abound.

What holes? Point them out to me and I'll try and fill them for you.

If it started twice here...do you have any realization what that means for the rest of the universe? It pretty much guarantees that we aren't alone. Plus, it's another nail in the already very-nailed coffin of creationistic religions.
As someone already pointed out, it is most certainly not a separate/alien form of life than that of what already exists on this planet. What is interesting about it is that it has indeed evolved to substitute arsenic in place of phosphorus in its Earthly DNA. In that regard, it is most definitely different from us.

Think of it this way:

Evolution ordinarily utilizes random changes to the DNA code with a positive selection rate for various morphologies and advantageous adaptations. In other words, when using the four letter alphabet of DNA (A, G, T, C) the shuffling of the letters in various genomic sequences is what provides certain mutations. For a quick example, the sequences ATT and ATC code the same amino acid called isoleucine. This is called a synonymous mutation as either code will produce the same amino acid. However, if we change from ATT or ATC to ATG we then code a completely different codon in that of methionine. A change in just one "letter" will now code a completely different amino acid!

But, that's not really what NASA found in this "extremophile bacteria." It seems that the bacteria did not so much change the order of its DNA coding (A, T, C, G) as much as it did by substituting one of the "ingredients" that actually builds its alphabet. A,T,C,G are indeed chemical compounds themselves and they are ordinarily produced by a mixture of CHPONS (Carbon, Hydrogen, Phosphorus, Oxygen, Nitrogen, and Sulfur). However, in this case, NASA found that in place of phosphorus, this bacteria can utilize arsenic for one of the chemicals that provides for the DNA "Alphabet Soup."

It should be noted that the bacteria can use either phosphorus or arsenic. To make it truly unique and alien-like, we'd have to find a bacteria that couldn't synthesize phosphorus at all but only used arsenic. Either way, it's an extremely interesting find that, at the very least, opens the door to the way we think about how life originates, evolves, and adapts to an otherwise non-conducive living environment.

Uh oh, maybe someone jumped the gun on that arsenic thing.

A recent high-profile astrobiology discovery led by a NASA scientist is being called into question by a B.C. microbiologist, who says the science was sloppy.

HAHA! who would thunk that Scientist can have an agenda and be sloppy

This says it all - From the article:

'When NASA spokesman Dwayne Brown was asked about public criticisms of the paper in the blogosphere, he noted that the article was peer-reviewed and published in one of the most prestigious scientific journals. He added that Wolfe-Simon will not be responding to individual criticisms, as the agency doesn't feel it is appropriate to debate the science using the media and bloggers. Instead, it believes that should be done in scientific publications.'

What a bunch of crap - if he did not want it in the public why did they come out with it so soon. Now that it is challenged he just passes it off as - 'hey we are are the overlords of science and our buddies confirmed it - it is in the journals so there is no need to discuss it with you peons in the public - we discuss it ouselves in our little irvory towers and you will accept it as fact.'

The air of superiority reeks of something fierce.

NASA was crapping on everyone who believes the Word of God.
Scientists: NASA’s alleged discovery of arsenic-based life is crap « Hot Air

What NASA does not know is that the Word of God states that God is the Father of spirits, and spirits are created with bodies, or not, says the Word -and they all are "living" and all answer to the Father of Creation. In the Word, all creation is alive and every force/spirit is under the authority of the Creator and does His will.
Can you command the winds and the waves? Jesus does. They obey Him.
Can you command the lightnings and they answer you? He does.

Whatever is, is His creation and answers to Him and does His will, in intelligent understanding ways.

Anyone else notice how we are seeing more and more of the above these days. Creationists, no longer able to scale the mountain of undeniable evidence for evolution, are now beginning to (reluctantly) accept it.....with the proviso that 'God dun it'. Oh well! I suppose it's a start.
