I get stressed out by the suggestion that watching a nine minute YouTube video with generic "deep" quotes will help me relax.

You might try it. It's very pleasant and maybe you might feel better.

Better than what? Just curious. Some of us already feel pretty okay today.

Here's my "secret." Draw three concentric circles, with a smiley face inside the smallest. The smiley face is YOU.

1. The inner circle contains all those things in the Universe that you can directly CONTROL. Note that YOU are the only being inside that circle.

2. The middle circle contains all those things in the Universe that you cannot control, but over which you can exert some INFLUENCE. (Though we haven't drawn them in, there are a few other beings inside that circle.)

3. The outer circle contains all those things in the Universe that you can neither control nor influence, but about which you have CONCERNS. (Again, though we haven't drawn them in, there are many more beings in this circle than in the INFLUENCE circle.)

4. Outside the outer circle is EVERYTHING ELSE in the Universe, including all the other beings.

Now for my secret -- work hard to know what (and who) truly belongs within each circle. CONTROL those few things that exist within the inner circle (again recognizing that YOU are the only being within that circle), strive to positively INFLUENCE those things/beings within the middle circle, and stop worrying about everything else!

Am I perfect at this? Not just NO, but HECK NO. However, I am working to get better at it...

Regards,

-- Nighteyes (with a tip of the hat to Stephen Covey...)

Well, that actually was a joke (my "better than what?" answer). It may not have translated well over the interwebs. But it was a joke. Hence the little smiley. ETA: And I'm pretty sure the "generic quotes" comment was a joke too. Sure seemed like it to me.

Nighteyes: That's great advice. I agree entirely with it.

I get it . . . but it was the speed and sequence of the posts that was trending in the direction of an unwarranted attack on a positive poster with a positive message.
