Jazz....where are you getting all those cute little symbols you've been using? Can we go "beyond" the little faces on the right side of our posts?....Fill me in
I know...I'm having way too much fun with them! On the "about the forum" forum someone started a thread "so you want smilies?" and put a link in there. Let me see if I can put it in here...brb...
Think of it this way.....for 2000 years there has been catholocism. The church was founded on Pentecost.....and just kept spreading from there.
There's over 1 billion of us world-wide...of course, we're going to generate and donate some considerable amountt of cash.
So...in Europe there are Catholic cathedrals on every corner....so the Vatican has a fabulous religous art collection (don't see anyone condemning The Louvre or The Smithsonian).....many collections were donated by individuals, btw....so they've made investments.....maybe they're really smart financial planners... So, their net worth is high. Why is this so troubling to people?
Catholilcs are truly a cross-section of nationalities, cultures, socio-economic classes, etc. We're kind of the ultimate melting pot.
Do you know how many people the catholic church employs worldwide?
Do you know how much money and service they give to the poor, disenfranchised and the needy?
Do you know how many schools are staffed and subsidized by their money around the world?
Do you know what contributions the catholic chuch has made to our society and our culture?
Do you even have a clue that Pope John Paul II was the single most influential person involved w/ the fall of communism?
You can't discount an entire established universal church just because it has a high net value.

They shouldn't on a "net worth basis"...
But there are a multitude of reasons why they could on a historical basis....
and a recent historical basis too...
Jazz....I don't understand......I'm thinking you must be a former catholic or something. What gives?
Ugh, I just really don't want to offend anyone because I have a lot of "issues" with the Catholic church but I know that there are a lot of great Catholics so sometimes my comments about the church transfer to the people and then I always end up offending someone.
Sigh...you notice I still came back though...husband is telling me to come to bed! LOL

No worries....we all seem to offend each other, sooner or later....whether intentionally or not....
That's what happens when you have a group of strong-willed folk like ourselve, I guess.
Catholism is a great church, but it isn't perfect either and it never has been perfect.
Okay, Trebek.....I'm gonna let the whole "cannibalism" thing go....turning over a new leaf, so to speak....
Of coures it's not perfect....nothing involving humans could ever be perfect.
To quote Mother Theresa: "God doesn't ask us to be perfect, just faithful".
