The Alabama governor clearly engaged in misconduct. However, and strictly from a legal perspective, I rather doubt it will result in impeachment. His statement certainly weakens his ability to govern, and may result in his resignation.

Now, and with all due respect, there seems to be a LOT of "Alabama experts" here. I'd love to know where y'all get your information, facts and data. O Brother Where Art Thou? Elmer Gantry? The Dukes of Hazzard? Where?

In short, I believe you're falling victim to sweeping generalizations, bias, and possibly elitism. Alabama has its share of faults, to be sure. However, let the State that is without fault, and without religious skeletons in its closet, cast the first stone. Before you go selecting your projectiles, you might wish to consider how Roman Catholics, Jews, Mormons, Hindus, American Indians, Atheists and others have been treated in your state.

Sadly, you're almost certainly correct. It's fun to dream for a moment, though.

as a person of faith i realise the phrase "believers in Christ" and the term "Christian" are some of very loosest descriptors we posses in our lexicon...one must apply objective reasonings throughly to a said subject when one professes "i'am a Christian" because there are thousands of variations of Christinity being interpreted in a thousand of different ways. believe it or not, as with all religions, some whom have been in charge of doing the intrepreting/deciphering have always found room for discrimination.

Unfortunately, I suspect that impeachment is one thing that won't result from the Governor's statement. His spin doctors will make him realize that he made a mistake (although he won't entirely accept that in his heart--as he appears to have accepted certain other things), and he'll issue a backpedaling statement insisting that he was misinterpreted. Then, after a few months of declining public opinion polls, everyone will forget about the whole thing. Voila...problem solved according to 21st century American media standards and practices!

You kiddin' me? Alabama is square in the bible belt and cracks like that are admired by 4 of every 5 people there. Don't be surprised if they set up a special annual AL holiday for him. They'll at least move the ten commandments and nativity scenes back onto all public places and start praying in schools again

well maybe so, but he has certainly limited his political future.

i beg your pardon! the year is currently 2011!.

one day at work the darndest thing happened...i and a colleague were standing at a station in silence. i thought we were both thinking about task completion and figuring how we were going to knock out the task. she broke the silence by exclaiming "save those confederate dollars the south will rise again!" it was so bizarre until i just didn't say anything. i guess she just needed to get it out.

have a great day, Mr. Melvin.

Oh I'd bet that if a popular vote were taken and if it could rule Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi and South Carolina would start flying the confederate flag again as soon as they could.

I think even I would have been struck speechless by an outburst like that...
