Are There Only Two People Who Have Ever Been Raised From The Dead?
The story of Lazarus is famous in the Bible because it is said that Jesus raised him from the dead after several days in his tomb. The only other person who was raised from the dead was Jesus himself. Of course Lazarus was just a mortal man and not a particularly significant person in the Bible by anything he had done in his life. Doesn't it seem a little strange that the first human being in all of history to come back from the dead was Lazarus instead of Jesus? Why would such a miraculous event be bestowed on such an insignificant figure?

With all due respect, your question is rather arrogant. You are treating your own beliefs as solid facts. And that's when discussions deteriorate. I firmly believe that you have the right to believe whatever you want to believe, regardless of what it is. But when you state an opinion as fact, it's a strong statement that you don't know the difference.

I have no idea why Lazarus was chosen to be first, but perhaps Jesus used that incident to show that the power of God was working in Him. In modern times, Smith Wigglesworth (1859-1947) is credited with raising 23 people from the dead, by the power of God...and there are repuded to be others.

I had heard of this person, Smith Wigglesworth. My question is why isn't he all over the news if it's true?
Where can facts be read on these events?

Maybe because Jesus was a friend of Lazarus and he loved him and his sisters. He saw Mary weeping and he also grieved -- Jesus wept. Others in attendance questioned if he could have kept Lazarus from dying if he'd been there. Because Jesus wanted all those around to believe that he was sent of God, he performed this wondrous miracle.
So IMHO, we don't have to have a big significance in this world to be very significant to Jesus. Also...Lazarus' name has been known for over 2000 years, far more significant than most of our names will ever be.

Symbolism: To God we are all significant.
Jesus said that He was the resurrection and the life. So it is not so much that Lazurus came back it is Who brought him back.
It is not by works that we will be resurrected, but we have to accept Jesus as our personal savior. So Lazarus really didn't have to be a news item all of the time.
I am going to check out a New Testament study. I think Peter did a miracle too.
I really enjoyed this question. You motivated me to think about Bible school lessons that I haven't thought of in a long time. You are a very thought provoking person. Thank you.

Really? That's not what I was thinking when I wrote it. I actually didn't state my own beliefs so your statements seem a little peculiar. Maybe you could elaborate on your specific beliefs and enlighten the rest of us with your wisdom. I was just stating that I thought it was peculiar that the first human being who was raised from the dead was a relatively insignificant individual and the most important person in the Christian religion was the second to be raised from the dead instead of the first.

i see people come back from the dead all the time....at five oclock everyday at work...
i would just like to tack on something to the lazurus story, I thing it had a lot to do with showing Jesus true compassion and the fact that although he was God, he still was man--of course IMHO, because ...john 11:35 says ..Jesus wept..to me it shows that he felt all the same emotions we feel about death and loss and can understand what we go thru.
