Jesus is making a truth statement here. In the final analysis, whether we agree or disagree doesn't matter. It is what it is.
Jesus also said he was the way, the truth and the life and no man would go to the father except through him(John 14:6)...kinda' arrogant of him in that one statement condemning about 90% of all the people who ever walked the planet to eternal damnation.
Lust is totally natural. It is part of who we are as human beings. Even if we try to control all of our thoughts while we are awake - we still have lustful dreams. It's natural. Now - having lustful thoughts and acting on these thoughts are two completely different things. But the thoughts themselves - I mean, I guess you can think it's bad and you're bad for having them - if you want to be a complete sadist and hate yourself!
Lust is the key word. you can think about something and not lust after it. Lust would indicate something that consumes you till it is about all you think about. If it is a woman, fame , or fortune it is wrong to lust after material things.
"You have heard that it was said, 'You shall not commit adultery.' But I say to you, everyone who looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Do you agree with this teaching, interpreted literally? Let's say it is married man looking at another married woman to be specific.
As usual the bible wants us to deny our true nature and feel guilty over it.
So Jesus and all his homies are actually just another form of thought police who's gonna swarm down and judge and punish us for the slightest license of liberty we can imagine in our mind that's out of touch with strict most-biblical conservative christian doctrine. What utter fun and thank goodness I don't subscribe to religion.

Well as is commonly and constantly reminded in politics, once in political economics, Man is the Measure of all Things. (Plato... the Thaetytus)
Don't forget, thought adultery" is regulated by the thought police: God.
I know; I know. People wonder a lot in the first home dwelling.
