When are...

... people going to stop looking for excuses to attack the Church

honestly, it appears as though the Arch-diocese is cooperating with the law and doing what they can to the best of their knowledge to prevent future mishaps and rectify ones that have occurred. Also, bear in mind that the Catholic Church is not the only place where this happens, it's only the one most report on by the news.

The fact is that the abuse commited by Catholic priests was & is global, & to have so many of these perverts inside one organisation is very telling don't you think?

The Irish report on abuse inside the Irish Catholic church said that the abuse by priests had been endemic & was covered up by people like the current Pope.

I can't say I know the intent of everyone that post about the sex abuse/cover up scandal in the Catholic Church but I know I post about it and will continue to do so as long as it remains a problem.
Hopefully the light will go on for the Catholics that like to pretend everything is ok.
If people/groups were not vigilant about it the hierarchy would have kept these priest and others hidden in the church to continue their sexual abuse of our innocent children.

The announcement was a major embarrassment for Cardinal Justin Rigali, who, in response to the grand jury report, had initially said there were no priests in active ministry “who have an admitted or established allegation of sexual abuse of a minor against them.”

In the article the bishop said he was truly sorry, this is the same BS we have been hearing from Rome and the pope; words are cheap, actions speak louder than words.
The hierarchy is still in deniel about the root causes, when are they going to take a good look in the mirror and realize that they are at the core of the problem instead of blaming everyone else.

Never

In fact, we donate thousands to it. I know I personally do. Some day it will be millions, but that will have to wait until I reach my 40s

Truth is, whether these are baseless allegations or not, I know it might even be true, the church need not shut down becoz of these deviants. They just have to turn them over to the police.

So, ashe brother, take a chill pill, and you and those like you must dedicate more time to the polarbears. They're about to go extinct

As a former Catholic, I have a soft spot in my heart for the good parishioners of the Church. It irks me, though, when some choose to turn a blind eye to the harsh reality of what's going on around them. Ignoring the problem does not make it go away and is an insult to the victims of the molestations. The guilty parties need to be held accountable for their wrongdoings.

Throwing out a wild guess, but I bet it's kinda tough to find good applicants to fill priest positions these days.

But if they let 'em get married, or at least go to the red light district once in a while the problem would most likely go away...

Then again, with every crooked priest the reputation and validity (therefore the power and influence) of the Church falls even more. That's not such a bad thing either. Too bad the price has to be thousands of abused kids though.

A simple conclusion can be drawn here: despite all the words, all the promises, all the penitential services, tears, programs and whatnots, about the only thing that can REALLY drive the hierarchy to clean up its act is bad publicity, and secular prosecutors.

Wouldn't it be nice if the motivator for real change in the church were the morals, ethics and values the hierarchy claims to embrace

Right on the money!

As a side note... When I see Catholic pro-lifers standing with their signs on the side of the road, I'm tempted to tell them to first defend the lives of children already born. Not to say that the pro-lifers are doing meaningless work, I just think they'd be doing a greater good for humanity if they put as much effort into helping needy and abused children (like the ones who were molested by priests).
