Which trite saying makes the least sense to you?
I have posted some of them, if you have others, please post them.

"God answered you, but you weren't listening"

"God answered you, but you had blinders on"

"God answers in HIS time, not YOURS"

"God doesn't owe you anything."

"God doesn't give you what you want, what you need"

"God is testing you."

"God helps those who help themselves"

"God does his will, not yours"

"God took him to a better place" or "He is in a better place now"

"God had work for him to do up there"

"It was his time to go"

"God didn't promise you a rose garden"

"Pray about it"

"Ask God what to do"

I think it depends on the intent of the person using the quotes, as to whether they were empty or not.

You forgot the ultimate cop-out...
'God works in mysterious ways.'

Those are Christian cop-outs, used not to help the believer, but to defend the religion.

No I think if you are a believer they are meant to give you comfort in times of need. If you aren't a believer and someone says one to you, I am sure the intent is still the same...compassion.

I'll agree on that. Compassion goes a long way to help. These trite sayings do far more good than, "Yeah, it's bad. Get over it!"

They also help when you can't think of another thing to say.

He is an angel now
WWJD
MY bible doesn't say that

Most people who use all the sayings we have listed are really trying to offer comfort or some kind help to you..Be kind and thank them and go on your way if you are insulted

Exactly! Although I think the last 2 on the OP's list may sound trite but may actually the most powerful, wise thing one can do.
