Now can I PROVE that Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Kim Sung, Pol Pot, Fidel Castro and others were not SECRETLY believers in God or some other religion? No, of course I can't prove that. But doesn't that fall into the same category as me saying, "You can't prove that there ISN'T a God!!" Most Atheists that I know aren't too fond of the use of this sort of logic being employed against them, so why use it at all?

Run a search on Marxism and Religion or anything similar you can think of. You'll find plenty of material. You may find some atheist-apologists saying these men were not atheists, but there is mountain of evidence that says they're wrong.

The evidence that all Marxist nations started out as extremely atheistic is overwhelming. The fact that accommodation with religion occurred later on in each case only demonstrates that the Marxists realized that:
A.) Try as they might, they just couldn't manage to eradicate religion.
B.) Because of A, new approach is taken: Since you can't seem to get rid of them, control and use the religions for your own purposes.

My personal philosophy concerning religion:
It's usefulness can be measured almost entirely by whether or not it makes you a better person. For every example of somebody who has done terrible things in the name of religion there are dozens who have actively sought to make the world a better place because of their religious convictions.

Mother Theresa did a lot of good things to make the world a better place. She is one of countless thousands.

IMHO, if your religion doesn't make you a better person - a person who seeks to make the world around you better as well, then your religion is useless drivel -- and God undoubtedly views it the same way. He is in the business of making bad men good and good men better. I'm a realist and I know myself well enough to realize how much worse a person I'd be without my faith. Call me brainwashed and mentally deluded but without said "delusions" I can promise you I'd be a much worse person than I am today.

Why so bitter against religion anyways Asheville?? Disbelief is one thing but unwaivering contempt for religious institutions all around you -- it just doesn't seem healthy.

Frankly, I'd be rather ashamed to admit that without religion I would be a worse person. Your statement implies that it is only your god/religion that is preventing you from stealing, killing, raping, lying and being a thoroughly obnoxious person. Some of us manage to be decent citizen without the fear of divine retribution or religious rules but obviously, not you. How sad!
