Okay don't flame me guys but I was guilty of this for years and years. I am not a smoker any longer (thank God) but I was for over 10 years.

Anything to do with someone taking advantage of someone is WRONG!

OMG. I had a classic mechanic rip-off. It should have been on 20-20. I pulled in to have my oil changed (shortly after divorce) and the mechanic opened my hood and was in absolute shock. It was one of the places that you remain in your vehicle and I could see his face. It was priceless!! He called over a couple of the other techs and they, too, were in awe. "It's a wonder I even made it in!!!!" It was my serpentine belt and it was all cracked and ready to break at any moment. I asked what happens if it breaks and of course the car dies on the spot. Now, remember, I was just recently divorced and a single mom. And to top that off, I drove 70 miles roundtrip to work each day. Needless to say, with all the drama they were putting on, I felt I had a real problem and had the work done. The only good thing I can say is that they didn't charge me too much (I checked around after the fact). But according to everyone else that I talked to, the serpentine belt usually looks cracked and still has 1000's of miles to go.

What makes my blood boil?

Gossip, especially one "friend" about another "friend", whether the information is true, untrue, sort of true, could be true, might be true, add a little spice to make it truish . . . . it just irritates to me to no end.

People who litter.

That's terrible Weather! It happens ALL of the time though. I know here, where we live, there's a couple of different mechanics (KNOW FOR FACT), that if you go in with one problem, within a week later you will have a completely different problem .
One time, my mom went in to have something checked. About 2 weeks later, her power steering pump went out (completely unrelated to original problem). My husband actually replaced the pump for her and there was all kinds of metal fragments and gunk in it...the irony in that is, my husband had just replaced the power steering pump 1 month prior .
There's other examples as well...I've tried HARD to gain knowledge of cars...I don't want to be taken. While I can usually hold my own, there is still some stuff they could probably get past me, but not as a rule anymore!

Welcome GASunshine! Long time no see! We've missed you here!

I agree, gossip is probably one of the WORST! There is nothing that hurts more than the poisonous tongue. This is how so many feelings are hurt and bitterness instilled into one's soul.

I've been distancing myself the last few years from people who talk about other people. Some people have elevated it to an Olympic sport. Much of the time the gossip is SPECULATION. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Okay, time for breathing exercises.

So, you're a good mechanic, hey? Can I send you a ticket to Atlanta?

I didn't say that I AM a good mechanic! My husband is a great backyard mechanic and I have always helped him work on our vehicles. But thanks for the invite

It's ok, you can vent to us anytime!

What makes my blood boil?

Nothing. I try not to bottle up my emotions. Instead of staying angry at something, we should do our best to fix it.

I'm reading a great book right now. It's a little over my head in some aspects but suffice to say it shows a causal link between meditation/centering prayer and increased awareness, ability to cope with depression, PTSD, and minor cases of ADD. The book is called The Mindful Brain and in it there is some mention of an event which really influenced how I focus upon events, emotions and thoughts as they spring up: COAL (Curiosity Openness Acceptance Learning.) Instead of "boiling up" it's better to approach the event probably later on, after you've had a chance to calm down, and deal with it as best as you can.

This has been an absolute change for me, I used to get angry over everything for no real reason. Road rage, annoyances et cetera. I was also having depressive or guilty thoughts about things I've done in the past which I chastised myself about. I'd say that now I can approach my past with a sense of awareness and acceptance ever since I started meditating on COAL and "loving forgiveness" of myself and others. I know it sounds hippy and new agey but it really does put you in a better frame of mind, calms you and allows you to, when the moments are at hand, focus on the here and now.

Anyway, just thought I'd share my "breakthrough" what with all this talk about anger. Do as GN says, and if you can't fix it then accept it, learn from it and forgive the origin. (This seems almost Christian in it's method, and I think to a large part Christian philosophy/prayer can help in the day to day for people, and it works!)

Anyway, my pet peeve is sound at the 70-100 hertz range. Why people feel the need to invade the airwaves (and our homes) with their low-frequency sounds I'll never understand. It's not like they're "sharing" anything. And to a large extent I believe it is their goal to infiltrate the area with their sound, as if to say "I am here, I have opinions which may differ from yours, but I'll drown out any other noise.." Maybe I'm reading between the lines (I do have aspergers) but it seems as if that's the case. What motive could there possibly be for causing premature hearing loss? Is it an image thing? Do people really think hearing aids are cool now?
