"Police found nails, a hammer, an electric drill and pieces of wood near the body, as well as instructions on how to build a cross."

Methinks that anyone that needs instructions on how to build a cross hasn't got a lot 'upstairs' anyway.

lolol
ok, but i gotta disagree "a little bit" with your comment.....building a good cross takes more than nailing one on top of the other at a 90 degree angle. maybe he was a perfectionist?!!! LOL

An obvious case of mental illness at work. A mental illness derived from a fantasy, based on a fable, thus the fantasy should be classified exactly how?

It is true deranged people can fixate on religion, but in less religious societies they can find other things to fixate on. Would it be better if he drank arsenic in the belief the arsenic-based aliens would accept him better that way? Or burned himself to death in a delusional version of a science project?
