So very sad. I can't believe this man, being confined his whole life, wouldn't want to have hope for an afterlife where he could be freed from that chair. I mean, why even bother to live and do anything good if your brain computer is just going to turn off when you die. I just don't get it.

He will find out when he dies that hell is real, and he will have to ever endure through all eternity the fact that he could have believed in Jesus and been freed from his disability for all eternity.
I just don't get it.
What's sad is that people like her (and you?) can't understand and appreciate the work and gift this man has left to humanity, a greater understanding of the universe. The only way this selfish girl can comprehend this act would be if he had done it just to have a shot of getting out of the wheelchair in afterlife. Why even bother living at all if it wasn't needed to get to heaven? Please.

It's like saying you are religious only so that you can get rid of whatever ails you when you go to heaven, for selfish reasons, instead of admire that some people make the best of their situation. Very condescending too, to assume his life is so horrible because he is in a wheelchair.

A few years ago someone told me that in heaven the people will have feasts of food, drink the finest wines and brandies, and continually dance the macarena.

Some of the most intelligent men of the past have gone to Hell and will never see the light of day again. Just because they rejected Jesus Christ as their savior. And that's exactly what's going to happen to most of these scientist that you put on a pedastool. Don't think just because they had a little bit of shine in the past 20-30 years that it's somehow gonna change their eternal destiny once death comes knocking on their door. The one thing your "most intelligent man on the planet" has yet to figure out is death. Because of his rejection of the knowledge of truth in the holy Bible, he had deluded himself into thinking there is no life after death. Which is highly ignorant because how the HELL could he confirm what happens after death when he has yet to experience it? At least Christians have NDEs and OBE's to confirm what God told us about the afterlife. Millions across the world have experienced and documented them. He's got nothing but his own notions about what he thinks happens. And what's going to happen is that he's going to go on to eternal torment in Hell if he does not repent. You really think this physical world and life is all that there is?! Think again Sherlock. You and all your atheist comrade will be facing your spiritual reality someday and there will no more big talk to talk against God and Jesus and Christians ever again. Don't think your day isn't coming.
Good grief!!!

Wrong! In fact, I don't think you will find any atheist that believes that the universe came from 'nothing'.

Actually you fit that description very well

Your immature little tirade of hate above is dripping with the irrational hatred you have for anyone that doesn't kowtow to your imaginary friend, all over a fable and fictional characters.

What does the word "study" mean in the context of something which comes purely through personal revelation and faith?

Tell me Red Jacket... does atheism struggle with any of these points? The issue I take with a quote like this is that it attempts to cast a religious worldview in a negative light, yet does nothing to address the many shortcomings of Atheism itself. Let us face facts... When one looks at the 20th century at regimes such as that of Joseph Stalin... atheism doesn't exactly have clean hands, does it?

Stalin was a murderer. It takes a special kind of person to kill someone, be them whatever religion. The Muslims who violently beheaded Nick Berg probably were not everyday, friendly normal guys - it takes a special kind of person to take a knife to another mans throat and start hacking away - a murderer.

And they come in every religion. Arguing about what historic figure actually believed what is missing the point and a distraction..

IMO, applying "critical thinking" to the Bible and not seeing it as a collection of mythology requires a set of 'givens' which the reader must keep in mind.
The have doctrinal differences, but I would consider them both experts with minor disagreements.

Define your "givens"?
and regardless of whether or not you view the Bible as a myths, or as the word of God, you need critical thinking to understand its lessons. If one doesn't use critical thinking, they'll probably misuse it to justify their own personal goals. A great example of this is the Westboro Baptist Church, clearly they do not use critical thinking when reading the Bible, because they spread a message of hate, when the Bible is meant to spread a message of love.

I would say, that's fair enough.

Considering this is something that DOES NOT come purely through personal revaluation, although it does require a lot of faith, by study, I mean the usual definition of study, going over books, understanding the catechism, developing an understanding of why the Church does what it does, etc.

Also, I cannot STAND those who say they'll be "laughing in heaven wile so and such is burning in hell" or those who condemn others to hell. We do not know who, if anyone, is in hell, and we never will, because none of us know how forgiving God us. Personally, I feel the only way to go to hell is to choose to do so, to choose to totally reject God and His teachings (love one another etc.)

Finally, I'm pretty sure every religion, including atheism, has blood on their hands, because kooks, whackjobs, and all sorts of dysfunctional people (who could probably use our prayers) come from all corners of the world in every color and creed.

IMHO......Hawkings is probably correct at least as far as a "Biblical Heaven" is concerned.

And only God knows just how much time Hawkings must devote to contemplative thinking.(sarcasm).
