It fully explains to me that ignorant, primitive mankind who believed the earth was flat and the universe revolved around it and who could not understand anything...invented gods in his imagination which would protect him from other predators, or more importantly, something above him which he could not see in the chain of predators. He saw nothing which would take care of him so he invented gods and an afterlife...just to take care of him.
We're still ignorant and primitive. Lots of knowledge but not much wisdom.

Man's contempt for nature will precede him if/when he strikes out into the cosmos to occupy other worlds. We will have brought all our problems with us.
I don't know if we have so much a contempt for nature, as a passive disregard for it.
I find it extremely hard to think that we should consider ourselves Numero-Uno. Were it not for our capacity to think and to rationalize things, we would be far from it. If put on an equal footing with any of the predatory animals that are in existence today, we would have a great deal of trouble surviving, remember at one time our species was food for some of those predators and even now we could not survive against any of those predators were it not for the weapons that we have been able to think of. So I think it's rather presumptuous of us to think that we are at the top of the food chart.

You think that even after nerve gas, biological extermination by will and nuclear annihilation they would still be around??
You should think about what you are declaring. Occasionally there is a brief, temporary strain of some unusual virus that causes our scientists a few weeks of particular dedication but it is rare. We De Boss Hoss!!
