ROME (AP) — Pope Benedict XVI met briefly this week with a Polish priest who has been accused of making anti-Jewish comments.

Photos showing the pope at his summer residence with the Rev. Tadeusz Rydzyk, along with two other Polish priests, were published in Polish newspapers Tuesday.

The Vatican has not commented on the meeting. But a Vatican official confirmed Tuesday that the three were brought to the pope, along with other pilgrims, after the pontiff's weekly public blessing Sunday in Castel Gandolfo, his summer home.

Sooooo? I always assumed that the Pope could meet with anyone he wanted to. Perhaps he wants to talk to him about his view point. Maybe he doesn't.

I am sure he meets with a lot of other priests too. Some may even think he should change his mind about married clergy and birth control.

It sounds like an investigation of sorts.

John, this is your second post in as many days about priests that don't measure up.

Do you have a problem with the Roman Catholic Church?

As a Catholic, I appreciate the news. The Polish President is a conservative one working to defeat communistic leaning sympathizers that remain within the Polish gov't., and Poland is an ally nation of ours ever moving toward more western freedom. Also, the previous Polish Pope's ideology helped to elevate the present Pope into his position, and was credited with helping to free Poland from the rule of the U.S.S.R.'s atheistic Iron Curtain. So it would be interesting to speculate or hear about how this Pope might deal with a media driven Polish Priest that may be getting too involved with Polish politics by smearing the Polish President, and affecting the Church's relationship with both Polish Catholics and the world's Jews.
The Vatican City is a state, and it has foreign policy considerations that go hand in hand with Catholic policies and teachings as it fulfills its world-wide mission.
So, any news is good news, and if it hadn't been posted, I would have never known.

John just likes stirring the pot to see what rises.

I like the idea of the Pope meeting with orthodox jews, arabs, and at least making an attempt to bridge the gap between the various cultures of the world. The Pope even met with George Bush ! <ack! cough!>
