What I, and I'm sure many other people, find totally ironic is that this guy and his followers protest against the very people that sacrifice their lives so he can have his right to hurl his venom.

Default Phelps

Mr Phelps has to come to terms with his own homosexuality. He hates the fact that he's gay so much that he has to convince his dumb bible-belt trailer trash who cant think for themselves that gayness is bad. These people take the bible out of context for their own agenda and generally give christians a bad reputation. He's projecting his hatred of his own gayness on a group of harmless people. He probably has a copy of "Broadway's Best Showtunes" hidden like porn in his house. Mr Phelps, it's OK to be gay. Just be proud of who god made you, and have a white russian to calm your dumb ass down.

I almost find Phelps and the Westboro Baptist Church funny because they're forever so overtly trying to offend people that it looks childish. I'm not exactly Christianity's biggest fan but even I know that they're not 'real' Christians.

It'd be hilarious if his Church, his house and all his stupid supporters were struck by lightning and blasted down to hell just so we could all picket the charred remains chanting "This was an act of God". I'd love to see the look on his face then. We can only hope.

I see almost all christians do this in one form or another.

It's by no means simply Fred Phelps.

Exactly. It's ridiculous to condemn Phelps for doing what he does but allow "real" Christians to do what they do in the name of religion. Phelps is as much a Christian as anybody else.

Are you saying somebody cannot believe homosexuality is a sin without being thrown into Phelps' camp?

I think that would be a worse judgement than God would dole out.
Came out of the gay life as in youre straight now?

I am not trying to answer for Hoosier, since of course, I cannot. But what I think he is referring to is he chooses to follow his faith and does not have sex with other men.

I am an alcoholic and will always be, but I choose to remain clean and sober, going on 10 years now.

I am also gay, and have known I was gay since I was 4 years old, but I live my life in a chaste/celibate way. I do not judge or put down those who lead sexually active gay lifestyles. What they do with their lives is their business.

Phelps hates Tim Russert now too.

This is more a personal decision than a decision based on faith.
Christians are allowed to drink alcohol. It is not against their religion, but when you are gay and choosing to come out of the closet is.
I mean, there are many Catholic priests who do not come out of the closet simply because they are afraid that they can't be a Catholic priest anymore.

No such thing. He means he resists his (natural) orientation to love men in the name of Christianity, which is tantamount to celibacy.

He's still gay. Being gay cannot be cured any more than being straight can be cured, since they are both the same thing with regard to how one emotionally and sexually perceives the other person.
