Yes, he should have used the cross, increased his rants about communism, and sent atheists, gays, and intellectuals to the ovens instead of jews. America would look more favorably on Nazi Germany. Then many Americans would say; Hey, that guy's one of us!

In Western society, it seems the thief has rights over stolen property.
It is very convenient for a Christian society to allow the Nazis and their political admirers to continue to sully the image of a ubiquitous, non-Christian symbol with such a legacy of cultural and spiritual significance.
The Swastika was a sacred symbol in pre-Christian Europe as well as Asian, Native American, and other non-Christian cultures all over the world. It even appears as a decorative motif in Jewish synagogues although most of those have been removed since WWII.
Had the Nazis used the Christian cross, I assure you it would not carry the stigma the swastika carries today.
The Swastika today is most reviled by two groups, older Jews such as holocaust/war survivors and their families, and European and American Christians and other PC mavens who find it socially or politically expedient (through the manipulation of guilt) to continue the slander of the symbol.

There may be more truth in that than what we think.
