A serious storm hit our part of the Cities last night. We've had similar storms, but this one was worse. The radar showed a large red band coming straight down the Mississippi river...and our house is right by the river. We were in it's path. The wind kicked up. The radar showed tornadoes, baseball size hail and rain. I prayed that God would put a blanket of protection over our house, cars and property. We have many mature trees that are well over 50 years old. Our house is a dwarf to these trees. One wrong move and the house would be history.

The power went out and we all huddled in the downstairs bedroom. My wife and I tried our best to calm the nerves of our 4 and 8 year old children. The 8 year old kept saying she didn't want to die. The four year old begins to cry. The wind is howling and we heard a crash outside. Again I continued to pray for a blanket of protection over our home, trees, and cars. The storm passed and only a few very large branches were down in the front yard.

I began thinking about the storm last night and the storms in our lives. When we see red on the radar we know to run downstairs and huddle together to protect one another. We know to pray for God's protection on our loved ones, our home and cars. But what about the storms in our lives? Are we praying for a blanket of protection in our lives? In our children's lives? In the life of our spouse and our marriage? Why do we think we can go the storms of life alone...or with minimal prayer when we fervrently pray for God to protect us when tornados, hurricanes and thunderstorms hit? Have you ever felt like a tornado or hurricane hit your personal life? Step into prayer and ask God for that blanket of protection...or whatever you want to call it. He's there for you in every circumstance.

I believe the problem with the storms of our lives is that we don't always prepare for our storms long before they appear on the horizon. Preparation requires a lot of prayer, understanding, love, and forgiveness. If we aren't prepared when the storms of life do come, they leave a path of destruction so wide that it interferes with every part of our life resulting in new storms that only add to the desrruction of our faith.

Yes, blue, your post reminds me of what Jesus said about the need to "build our house on a Rock."

Hoos, thank the Good Lord you and your family are ok! And you are so right, God is in everything, Philippians 4:6 says "Don't worry about anything instead pray about everything.....I sure felt like a hurricane hit my life a few weeks ago when my husband was sick, but I felt the strength of Lord in a way I never had before. My mother has told me many times "keep yourself prayed up". Thank you for this beautiful reminder!

Sometimes, I think some people endure storms so often in their life that it becomes natural to them...thus, they don't even realize it's a storm, it just seems like normal life.
On the other hand, there are people that seem to have it so much better than others, then when they are faced with a storm, the lack the preparedness to effectively weather it.

I used to get bent out of shape with every storm that came through my life. But, now, I have learned to just let it blow by. There is no storm to great to conquer with God next to me.
