Data collected through social networking sites where people identify with their religion and seriousness of said religion.

Is there any reason for this? :O

: damn agnostics, why can only the serious agnostic write above a nineth grade level?

Also, its interesting that only Atheists and Agnostics write better the more serious they are about their beliefs.

Hindus and Muslims appear to show the opposite trend.

I bet the "not serious" Buddhists are actually atheists and agnostics who agree with Buddhist philosophy.

Interesting that people who follow the Jewish religion keep up with the non-dogmatic when it comes to being educate on the proper ways to write.

agnostics have their work cut out for them to convert people who know how to write away from Judaism, Buddhism, and atheism.

It appears that the more secular people (not serious about their religion) always write better, unless they are atheists or agnostics.

I always feel a bit uncomfortable with 'studies' proving that unbelievers are smarter than believers. I really don't believe that is true. In my experience, God - believers can be just as intelligent, educated and articulate as non - believers. We see that quickly enough when they deconvert. It's like a brake has been taken off all that intelligence, education and eloquence and it is allowed to operate outside the straitjacket of religious dogma.

QUESTION:

How was writing proficiency objectively measured?

No surprise. When encountering written material from christians (excluding books) plenty of grammar, punctuation, and spelling mistakes can be found. Maybe it's part of their anti-intellectualism.

While a study may show correlation, that does not automatically equate to causation.

There are a number of questions I have about the study.

1. How many of each group were evaluated?

2. Were the test subjects randomly selected or was there a criteria for selection?

3. What steps were taken to assure it would be a blind study and not a biased selection?

4. What steps were taken to assure the subjects actually were as stated?

I could go on. Just want to point out there is no indication of what level of reliability this particular study has. The results of any survey are never any more reliable than the design of the survey.

Just a guess on my part but I suspect there would be many more Potestants posting on forums, than say Muslims. You are going to find a more accurate representation of Protestants than you will of Muslims. Among the Protetants you will find a wider representation of Protestants, Muslims are typically more conservative and not much for posting on forums. I believe you are more likely to find mostly the more educated Muslims on forums, as they tend to be more liberal about interaction with non-Muslims.

I believe the survey is flawed, as the survey subjects may not be representative of the survey group.
