I can't even say that it's intentional. I only remember very specifically having a conversation with a Witness where I told her about the acupuncture I did. Then we agreed that God is love, which is at the root of things like energy work. She didn't say anything about Jehovah being against that at all.
I do think that JW's that go door-to-door do leave out the bits that are seen as "whacky" by the outside world. For example I have never met a JW who would mention the head-covering or who would mention that Christmas decorations aren't allowed until later on. I understand part of that is just a product of good first impressions, but I do think in some cases, with some individuals, it can lead to misrepresentations, omissions, and sometimes even just outright lying.
I do think it's important to get opinions both from JW's and from former JW's or non-JW's who have had experience in the JW community, just to get both sides of the coin.
