Taking aside the snarkiness there's some truth in that. Many to most priests I've known are nerdish. In fact a fair amount of them are even "stereotypically nerdish" and would also discuss Dr. Who or Star-Trek or the like with you if you want. Preachers I've known are a bit less nerdy, preachers are less scholarly in my experience, but some of them might have certain nerdish qualities.

However I'm nerdy in many ways and I take this as a positive. The "obsessive caring about a book or topic" or "caring more about ideas than ones social life" can lead to real achievements. And to really caring about the big/deep things in life. Possibly religious-debates are so big online because nerds are big online. Religious debates are sometimes led, on both sides, by "nerds." Sometimes they even strike me as being like the "Two Cultures" debates of the 50s between Sciences and the Humanities as clergy tend to be more "History/Literature" nerds while the Proselytizing-Atheists tend to be more likely to be Science nerds. Not that that entirely works. Francis S. Collins (Christian) is a scientist and Christopher Hitchens (Atheist) is a journalist.

Nerds are great, in short. If anything I almost wish I was nerdier.

Put me down for a nerd too. Non nerds are perhaps too much Homo and not enough sapiens.
