Thomas Jefferson did a re-write, but it has not been widely accepted.

"Who else thinks the bible drastically needs to be rewritten?"

If you think rewriting history is a good thing. You wouldn't be the first Atheist/Agnostic to attempt to do it.

Jefferson basically made the Bible into an atheistic document, removing every reference to anything supernatural. That's why it hasn't been widely accepted.

What would be the purpose of drastically re-writing the Bible if not to rewrite history?

The easiest reason is to update the language. English usage has changed a LOT from King James' time.

I would think most Christians like the bible the way it is. As it stands it's open to interpretation, with all the different version it make's it easier to pick & choose what version suits your needs. Of course most religious texts are the same when it comes to being open to interpretation. I think that's a problem when it comes to putting things down on paper.

actually even Hebrew usage has. I wonder if anyone has taken a shot at translating from biblical Hebrew to Modern Israeli Hebrew?
