Probably because they are taught to fear the devil.

I remember as a kid being told of a great-aunt of my mother's. She didn't believe in God and made fun of people who went to church. Then when she was on her deathbed, four men had to hold her down because she was screaming that the devil was at the foot of her bed waiting for her...

I wonder how many other generations had to listen to that story!

I have no beliefs based on nothing but an ancient superstition, a baseless myth, with no evidence at all that teaches and instills such childish fears. The monster was never under the bed, nor does the devil exist.

It would appear to be so, if you chart the damage that each of them had done according to the bible.

Also if I remember, 'Lucifer' means the light giver. Christ is the light of the world. Interesting.

It seems as though, in the garden of Eden, it was god forbidding knowledge to mankind and Lucifer who encouraged eating the apple - 'ye shall be as gods' or something like that.

Even in the Tower of Babel incident, it appears as though god wished to crush human aspiration.

I am SO fed up with religious myth!

It is so sad that some religions would keep us ignorant and push civilization backward.

I wanted to append this on a prior post but the system would not allow me to.

Ludicrous? No, it's a sign of wisdom to know the enemy is like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. You give poor advice!

^^^^^^^^We should be wary of the devil for he is a tempting factor that wants to keep us from our salvation, but we as Christians should never fear the devil as we have our shield of armor by knowing the Lord and that He lives within us..
