He did this because he found that this verse was only present in some of the latest manuscripts available (the verse was basically added much, much later than the oldest manuscripts), and thus he found no warrant for it. The Church was furious and demanded he put the verse back in, for his next edition. He told them he would IF they showed him a Greek manuscript that included that verse. So they did. They had a scribe MAKE a Greek manuscript solely for the purpose of including that verse heh heh!

Erasmus, being a man of his word but knowing full well the deception that had been done - included the verse in his next edition, and this text became the basis for most of our English translations after that, including the King James Version. It's a funny, but unfortunate story...
Good info here! I hadn't researched this particular topic much, but your research does make sense.

You have to admit, it will sound strange if you sneeze and say, "I bless me!"

At least if you pray to yourself there is someone there listening and you never know, you just might get a reply.

Default Is it a sin to pray to yourself?

I guess that really depends on whether you intent to damn yourself for idol worship or demand the worshipping of yourself as an idol.

But just in case:

Christianity was basically MADE by the Greek polytheists and their children... and then transferred to the Roman and Egyptian polytheists. The Trinity of Athena, the God Hercules, etc etc... The pagans NEVER wanted to become Jews... they chose to remain gentile... and pretend that the Jewish God had chosen them too.

Ha - the guy who 'made up' the story didn't have the slightest intention of showing Jesus praying to 'himself': it was later Christians - reacting against rival groups teachings about the divinity, non-divinity or half-divinity of Christ - who promulgated the idea of the Trinity, convened some councils to further cement the idea into official Church doctrine, and forever made people scratch their heads over the whole idea, while explaining to the curious that it's impossible to 'understand' the idea, because it's a mystery, and it's supposed to stay that way.

Good guess, though, I suppose...
