Simple answer is, if he was the god everyone says he is, he wouldn't. Which means either he doesn't exist, or he's not a god.
I agree. One of the many baffling aspects of a benevolent God who loves his children. One also wonders why he would create hell at all ? But of course he works in mysterious ways and we are not meant to understand.

I've pondered this too. So if there's a god, he decided to create humans and put them on this planet. Then he created heaven and hell, and demands that humans obey him to get to heaven or don't obey and go to hell. Now within these humans, there are thousands of religions and sub-sects of religions, so it's up to the individual to figure out which of these is the correct religion that god wants you to obey him through. And then god never actually reveals himself to the humans or directly speaks to them (although some seem to think they're on god's direct hotline) so there has to be blind faith in god.

I'm asking this question on behalf of a friend.
What if you believe in God but not in hell? and what if you believe that all human beings will eventually become aware of the divinity within, each one on his/her own pace and by his/her own path.
imho God created mankind to share his self with us, to express his unique self into each one of us and he gave us free will in order to choose if we want to continue enjoying the material world, or seek him and return to our source.
There are things that cause suffering in this world though, but we have our free will to decide what's best for us, there isn't an angry God going to punish ourselves, but there are rules that if you choose to avoid, will bring suffering to you.
God (if you are a believer) is aware of our mistakes and imperfections, that's why we are given infinite tries to go on, until we decide to break the life/death cycle and go back to him...
If God had not created us with the ability to choose for or against Him, we would be robots.
God can know everything... whether He chooses to know our eternal destiny or not, I don't know. But that makes no difference regarding His love for us. He knows where we are right now, and that's all that matters.
Foreknowledge on God's part has absolutely nothing to do with our choices.
humans have free will.
god gave us free will so we can grow into responsible mature adults
if we choose to create hell on earth for ourselves and others that is our choice, nothing to do with god.
it's like our kids, we allow them the natural consequences for their actions so they learn to function capably in the world. we don't do it for them or prevent them from their pain else they neverl learn, grow, and develop wisdom
god's fine no matter what, it's our problem, not god's
as far as an "eternal hell" there is no such thing
only union with a loving god before and after each lifetime
the only "hell" is misery humans create for each other
hell has nothing to do with god at all.
you mean why does he allow all these people to run around bent on self destruction and taking as many as they can with them?
2nd chance? god is the ultimate "time out" permaparent. a kidult on every couch with a skateboard & a student loan.
