I am looking to be able to read the bible.
I am a Jewish person, I will be reading it simply for my own education and knowledge; I'd like to know things for myself.

Which book would you recommend and would be easiest to read?
I'm more interested in the old testament, was wondering if there are any versions of this under 1000 pages!

Again, just looking to read it for my own curiosity only.

Thanks.

I would suggest the New International Version. Easy to read in modern English.

The link in post 2 is not a link to the Bible, but the thoughts of one man who lived in the 1500s.

If your Jewish I would think that you would only wish to read the OT & not the NT, The NT has nothing to do with the Jewish faith.

The Jewish Study Bible - Contains the NJPS translation, with scholarly essays on all things biblical (practically), and copious footnotes to help with any issues that may arise while reading. Highly reccomended. Contains (of course) the Tanakh.
The price can't be beat, nor the quality of the essays.

I'm also Jewish, and I also like to read Scripture for my own edification (I happen to be fascinated with the actual history contained within its pages). I go with the Hebrew Publication Society translation.

Yes, I would like to read the old testament, but a version I can understand and is (if possible) shorter than 1,000 pages!
