Popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI condemned the U.S. war on Iraq as unprovoked, and Bishop John Botean , stated that "any direct participation and support of this war against the people of Iraq is objectively grave evil, a matter of mortal sin," and that "with moral certainty…it does not meet even the minimal standards of the Catholic just-war theory"
So why are so many bishops silent on the issue?
Why do they only speak out on Abortions?
Many seem to be strong supporters of our country's illegal wars
have they never read
John 13: 34 I give you a new commandment:* love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another.
I would add the one about loving our enemies but I do not consider the people of Iraq or for that matter the people of Afghanistan my enemies.
So if you fought in Iraq, but you're back home now, you committed a mortal sin retroactively?
These statements were made leading up to the conflict so there is nothing retroactive, and as was mention you don't have to be in the military and go off and fight, you need to just support the war.
Now a person has to know that it is a mortal sin to support or fight in such a war to be guilty of a mortal sin, they might have not known because the bishops who knew it was a mortal sin did not informed them, the bishops by their silence are guilty of mortal sin, many if not most bishops are warmoglers,
there are very few peace bishops left at least among the U.S. bishops.
Imagine worldwide if all religious leaders not just Catholic leaders told their flocks it was a serious sin to pick up arms against their fellow man, there would be war no more.

But it is just a theory.
