What evidence do you have that Victoria falls formed via a catastrophic process, as opposed to all that water flowing over the rocks and abraiding them for millions of years?
Shalom orogenicman...if one prepares a test to produce a specific result, then the test is biased.
If it were possible for water to flow over a rock for millions of years without changing the structure, then your assumption would be irrefutable.
However, water is a powerful substance. Take for example the earthquake off the coast of Sumatra in 2004...and the resulting tsunami that killed nearly half a million people, and changed, in a catastrophic moment, thousands of miles of coastline. The entire island of Sumatra rumbled over 100 feet into a new geographic location. All of it happened in less than 24 hrs.
Millions of years of erosion through water abrasion is ridiculous.

Erm, what? First of all, that is not what I said, and second, I made no assumption.

The earthquke and tsunami did not create a gorge or a waterfall, and there is no evidence that massive earthquakes have occurred in the vicinity of Victoria Falls, so not only does your analogy not work, it's pure unsupported speculation.

Look, we've been weathering rocks in laboratories for over 100 years. We are fully aware of the erosion rates for MANY rock types and other earth materials. So you are right, water is a very powerful force. And millions of years of erosion is not only not ridiculous, it is SOP for every surface on the planet.

....ahem... "water flowing over the rocks and abraiding them for millions of years?" That is what you wrote, so your assumption was implied, and was therefore inferred by me.
Secundo, I never wrote that an earthquake or a tsunami created a gorge or a waterfall; nor did I write that there is evidence that a massive earthquake occurred in the vicinity of Victoria Falls. all of that was implied and inferred by you alone.
I merely gave you an example of a catastrophic event pertaining to the power of water. What is pure speculation is your quaint notion that erosion rates on a rock in a laboratory can be imposed upon actual erosion rates in the real world.
Oh, by the way...Merry Christmas friend...

It is not an assumption or an implication. We know the effect flowing water (and the sediment load it carries) has on rocks of all types, short-term and long-term. We see it in the laboratory and in the field. It is one of the best documented phenomenon in all of geology. This is not in question by any geologist I am aware of. In fact, as far as I know, the only ones who question it are creationists who obviously don't know what they are talking about.

If you can explain what Christmas has to do with what we are talking about...Oh right, nothing but religious diversion.

...Scrooge had his money, and you have your rocks.
Today, if you will not harden your heart like so many of those rocks you've studied, let peace and good will reign and G-d Bless us everyone.
Hopefully you'll remember how precarious your life really is...teetering on a ledge between a silly notion of millions of years (which throughout your miserable life G-d has mercifully winked at), and the numbing reality of but a very short life (which I pray for your sake does not become the missed opportunity to open the door to Jesus Christ who loves you so very much and wants to bridge a vast chasm separating you from G-d The Father).
The Blessings of The Eternal One bring you The Joy and Peace of His Christ...
