You see, unbelievers and atheists CAN have good things to say about [some] Christians when asked.

Someone asked me if I'd report back on the Friends... They're...still friendly. Not obnoxious, but there's almost always someone puttering around out there when I go to check on my plants, and everyone shoots the breeze for a minute or two. On non-secular subjects, I mean.

These are nice folks.

Barack Obama's daughters go to the Sidwell Friends School run by Quakers.

Sidwell Friends School: About SFS » Quaker Values

Quote:
The Quaker belief that there is "that of God" in each of us shapes everything we do at Sidwell Friends School. It inspires us to show kindness and respect toward one another. It motivates us to recognize and nurture each person's unique gifts. It teaches us to apply our talents in service to others and to work courageously for peace.

Unlike many other Friends schools, Sidwell Friends School has never been "under the care of a Meeting." Its Quaker character has been the product of vital Quaker leadership—in the beginning from the School's founder Thomas Sidwell, and in recent years from Quaker Heads of School Robert Smith, Earl Harrison, Bruce Stewart, and Tom Farquhar. This leadership has also come from the Board of Trustees, more than half of whose members are Quakers.
Quote:
Quaker testimonies and values permeate every aspect of the curriculum. Students gather for weekly silent Quaker Meetings in the Meeting House and in classrooms. Writing and considering monthly queries are important parts of Quaker education. Ongoing community service within the school and beyond continues throughout the year.

Just a thought it seems like every religion has some denomination within them that few people can find anything bad to say about. The Christians have the Quakers, Islam has the Sufis, The Asiatic faiths have the Buddhists.

But nobody every identifies them with the faith. However, let one group act like jerks and suddenly they become representative of the entire faith.

Perhaps we need to remember the Westboro Baptist church does not represent all Christians. The Wahhabi do not represent all Muslims and the Tamil Tigers do not represent all Asiatic faiths.

We all have jerks in our midst. Let us temper that by remembering all faiths also have very nice people in their midst.

Philadelphia is the Quaker City.

It was founded by William Penn, a Quaker, to be "a Greene Country Towne" and also a "Holy Experiment" where Protestants, Catholics, Jews, Quakers, Mohammedans, Atheists, and all others could live together in friendship and peace.
