Atheism sets its own course , often with Theism as its rutter. It has few independant leaders and little town hall meetings to speak of. On the other hand religion is like an organized giant with too many leaders and meetings to count. This is one reason why many Atheist are so obsessed with religion; they embrace the " David verses Goliath" senerio, to borrow a religious dogma.

To point out ignorance that harms society and mankind is a civic responsibility.

Yet religion arguably has done more good to society than it has harm; its a two edged sword for sure. Or does your view of religion exclude its obvious good? Are you balanced in your view, or just one sided in your vent? And is it important to see the whole picture of that you oppose?

Many religious people are obsessed with Atheism because of their need for " A target to condemn!" You know, the pathology of needing someone or something to put down, in order to push yourself up. They build their self confidence up by fullfilling their need to be able to forecast the doom of others.

A simplified account of the history of Atheism will show it was born in religion. So Atheist are simply obsessed with their parent and rebelling against them. A fact they cannot bury in history.

Religion is a station for the people, Atheism wants to take that away from the people
Atheism is a complaint from some people, religion wants to take that complaint away
Both groups are obsessed with each other, yet need each other to gain more relevance.

Atheist seek the truth and God if possible..religious people seek the same thing. Well actually some religious nuts are not interested in finding the truth or God. If there is a God and I believe there is...He probably approves of intelligent atheists more than he does the blind religious zealot. If a religious person is mislead and their beliefs about God are amiss...does that make the religious person an atheist? Interesting question.

Christians (or rather believers in the Christian God) are atheists.
"Monotheism was not the norm in antiquity. It was an anomaly. As a result, some Greeks, Romans, Syrians, Egyptians, and others had difficulty making sense of the Judean focus on one god, which seemed to them the equivalent of denying the gods altogether, of “atheism”.

Despite other ways in which they made a home in the Greco-Roman world, this is where the early followers of Jesus were at odds with surrounding culture, and it could be a source of harassment, abuse or even violence. In times of trouble or catastrophe, fingers began to point at those who failed to honour the gods properly, at the “atheists”. The gods were punishing people through natural disasters, such as earthquakes and fires, because the gods were not being honoured fittingly and atheists like the followers of Jesus were being blamed."

Interesting scripture; I think it applys to the thread well.
