If you are religious, please speak only in lay terms - no bible quotes - just your perception why you think you are on planet Earth at this time.

If you are atheist, I assume you just think you're here as a random event . . .please share your perspectives, but don't derail the thread by deriding those who believe there must be a reason why they are on Earth.
For myself, I believe there is a reason why I am on Earth, and I assume it is to learn some lessons . . .for what ultimate purpose, I have no idea, as it all seems so mundane on the Earthly plane.
I am old and I don't think I have fulfilled my purpose - and maybe never will . . .I believe in reincarnation and that there is a debriefing after death where the life just lived is evaluated.
I think I did a pretty crappy job so far, but maybe I will be struck by lightening and will think, do or be whatever might take me to a higher level of consciousness.

I am an atheist and I pretty much go with science 100% of the way on this one, even though I have no great scientific knowledge. If you want to find in me some "life philosophy" it is to enjoy my time on earth as much as possible without inconveniencing anyone, and if someone wants to join in with my attempts at fun or come along for the ride, they are welcome (provided they meet with my approval, of course).
I should point out that I am an atheist but unlike many people, particularly religious people, I am not utterly convinced that my convictions are true ones. In other words, I freely admit that there might be a god or some supreme being out there somewhere. But it does not seem likely. At least it does not seem likely that a supreme being is looking down upon us as his "flock" and recording our sins for purposes of future judgement. I guess what I am saying that if there is a supreme being out there somewhere, there is scant chance that he, or she, or it, is anything remotely like the creature portrayed in the Bible, or most other religious doctrine. Kind of like the guy who has built a house on ten acres and we are the unknown, irrelevant anthill off in the distance.

All in all, life is what you make of it. If you have no purpose or cannot find one within yourself, that is one's own lack of morality and empathy. The world is full of opportunity to help others and to create/live in a world of their own discipline (god bless the USA).
Purpose, its not something you wait for someone to give you. It is an intrinsic characteristic of the ego and highly individualistic.

if life was entirely what you make it , no one would ever get murdered , raped , kidnapped , abused or victimised in some shape or form , im all for striving for excellence but luck is a hugely important factor in terms of how your life turns out
luck is something as simple as not having a malevolent toxic individual enter your life at an important juncture to destroy years of possitive development , people are not cars or fences , they cannot be mended that quickly when badly damaged

To believe we are here for a reason is the height of hubris. We are here for no other reason than a biological one. But that does not mean we cannot do great things with the life we have. I live a great life knowing I have no other purpose than what I make it. Now that is TRUE freedom. Now I better go see if the wife has something for me to do.

Why Do You Believe YOU Are On the Planet?
I'm sure liquor had something to do with it.

You want to know what I think? It doesn't matter what I think. I can think or believe anything I want, but it does not alter the fact that humans are here on Earth for the same reason every single life form that has existed, that exists now and that will exist in the future is here.
The reason you and I and everyone else is here is too reproduce, so that the human species can continue to exist.
Humans have evolved in a way that makes them very capable of perpetuating themselves. The most significant result of evolution is the human brain, which has the ability to apply foresight; to see the consequences of its actions; to foresee pending disaster or death; and to take steps to lessen the impact of such events or avoid them altogether.
The other significant result of evolution is our ability to build and create. We can foresee the destruction of Earth, and build/create those things which will allow us to survive, whether that is underground shelter, or space craft to take us elsewhere to live.
No other organism on Earth has those abilities. Certainly some organisms have limited ability to foresee certain disasters, like earthquakes for example, but they are limited in how they respond to such events (basically nothing more than flight).
So you can fantasize all you want about why you are here, but it doesn't alter history or evolution, and it certainly doesn't alter reality.
Realistically...
