Not a way to sell a religion, and as we discussed in the A&A forum, Christianity has done an excellent job of selling and marketing itself.

Same applies to most all religions.

As soon as they say "There is only one God and XXXX is his name" and they tell you how to worship their god you know the brain washing is about to begin!

When they open up and say "There are various paths that may lead to enlightenment" you listen!

I live in a "haunted house" and still don't expect Jesus to save me.

The phenomenon is real, but the religious explanation holds no more water than any other religious explanation for natural phenomenon that currently are explained by science. The paranormal is simply nature that we do not yet understand (still admittedly mixed with copious amounts of B.S.)... and once science evolves enough to actually be able to tackle those questions, ghosts and hauntings will be just as logically understood as rainbows, the moon and the stars.

Quite demonstrably so, QH! At every turn, when scientific exploration has historically tried to pry open those previously sealed doors of knowledge, the church was always there with it's mandatory disciplines and flasks of hemlock for you to drink of. Too bad it's all fading, and fast! Soon the whole ball of oily darkness will fade away.

And here I thought it was just the two freeways I live near. Lights, squealing brakes, loud night-time noises.. I thought it was just typical diesel ruccous!

But as per hljc here, that's apparently that's not the case...

PS hljc: When I was full into the late teen-aged questioning of my once strong Christian faith, I asked the debil to come and take my soul in exchange for my having control over some of my worst enemies. Honest!

But what happened? Not a gul-durned thing is what!

What did I forget to say? Or must I sacrifice a cat or a lamb or sumthin'?

(What endless and intellectually unsupportable hog-twaddle! And to think.. Supposedly intelligent people buy into this stuff; lock, stock and barrel!)

To someone from the atheistic perspective, the idea of "forbidden knowledge" is completely insane. Nobody in Science would ever say: "you must never learn of the cellular structure of neuron" or "Never consider splitting uranium atoms, such things must remain unknown"... The goal is quite the opposite, in fact. Nothing is "forbidden", all knowledge instead is catagorized only by it's relevance (or lack thereof) to any given topic.

....So why is the idea of "forbidden knowledge" that must be avoided and/or never learned so deeply rooted in Christianity?

Is it just a common theme taken from familiar bible stories like Adam and Eve, fear of evil or misguidence along the lines of Christianity vs the occult...

...or is it a more sinister strategy to purposely keep people ignorant by keeping followers from seeing the world differently from how the religion would prefer them to see?

So maybe all people on all sides have areas of "forbidden knowledge" and it is: the opposite to what they believe, or something that can influence them in the opposite direction


But back to the point,
people's faith is based on a belief

You will find that atheists know a great deal about religion, often much more than so called christians. That is why we are atheists, knowledge.
