everyone human at one time or another can fear death. the bible says that jesus took the sting out of death. O death where is thy sting. god said in the book of psalm that it is a great joy when his saint die and come home. when you know god as a parent (the good sheppard) you live life as long and as healty as you can, and when its that time god will remove all the fear, and you will await him as your God, your father, your sheppard and if you get a chance to read revelations around the 21 chapter it tells you god will wipe away all tears, no more dying, no more sickness. he love you so much he has prepared a place for you john 3:16 in my father house are many manisons Yes this awaits you - go back to revelation around the 22 chapter and it tell you of a city of gold. if you are in church speak to your pastor about this. If not give your life to god and find a good bible teaching church. god is love and not fear....be blessed

I don't understand, conceptually, why atheists would fear death. If they think death is "nothing," what would there be to fear?

The only thing I can think of is if they are totally ego-identified, then it would probably be scary to think they are not going to exist anymore.

Honestly, as an atheist, one of the biggest "fears" about death that I have is that I know I won't get to know how it all works out. Not just what eventually happens with my friends and family, but what eventually happens with humankind. I would love to know the state of the human race in the year 3000, but I never will. It's like reading a really complex, interesting novel, and knowing that it remains unfinished, and there's nothing to be done about it.
