Thanks Nezli for the update. My thoughts and prayers are with her for a painless journey into eternity, and for understanding, peace and comfort for her family who have endured so much heartache..

Another update from abcnews.com.......
Quote:
A terminally ill woman who battled her deeply religious parents in court over her right to die has had a change of heart.
Grace SungEun Lee, 28, who is battling brain cancer, signed a healthcare proxy today designating her father, Rev. Manho Lee, as her primary health care decision maker, Lee's court appointed attorney, David Smith, told ABC station WABC-TV in New York.

No wonder people resist religion so strongly. Above we see the effects of it.
Once you imagine a god and assign authority to it then you remove that authority from us. It takes decisions and actions out of our hands that really need to be done and made.
No one is "playing god" here. We are people and we live in a society together. It makes sense that we be responsible for the health and the well being of others and as such it very much is the purview of (wo)man kind to decide when we should be allowing people to die and how. And when to prolong their suffering and how.
This is a decision by people, for people and about people and it very much is our place to do so and the authority is ours and ours alone - not in the hands of some sentient entity you have not shown even exists. That one would use the imagined existence of god as an excuse to wash our hands of making important moral judgements is truely scarey.

This whole concept of a "right" to die has gotten much too far out of hand. Since everyone is going to die, none of this stuff should ever have gotten to the point of becoming an "issue" in the first place. Government and legislation should have no part of the process.

Well, they chose it by interfering with the wishes of their adult daughter, didn't they?

Our civil lives should not be dictated by religion, especially by one, particular religion, as the country contains those of many religions as well as atheists. Such things should be a matter of individual choice.

Only God decides when we enter and leave the Earth. Life and death is only God's business, not ours. This issue does point to the fact that we must create a better world that cares for life and is about life. A world that sanctions death and focusses on it is wrong.

I think the idea here is being able to choose death when you've lost the faculty to do so independently. We're all going to die, some of us even get to choose when. It'd be nice to have that choice honored if you can't do it yourself.

No, you're wrong. Only the God that YOU believe in has these 'rules'. Other people believe just as strongly in God, but believe He does not want us to suffer. To that end, he gave us brains and technology to alleviate our suffering. Our misery does not please God at all. He is merciful and loving and just and has given us a gift, shared with many other animals in His creation, to know when it is time to close shop. God is sure to treat us with at least the mercy and compassion that we show to our household pets.
