The examples of medical treatments found in the Bible are pretty straight forward and uncomplicated.

Proverbs 31:6-7 is an example:

Quote:
Prov. 31:6-7; ESV

English Standard Version (ESV)

6 Give strong drink to the one who is perishing, and wine to those in bitter distress;

7 let them drink and forget their poverty and remember their misery no more.

and the New International Version (NIV)

6 Give beer to those who are perishing, wine to those who are in anguish;

7 let them drink and forget their poverty and remember their misery no more.

Proverbs 31:6-7 ESV/NIV - Give strong drink to the one who is perishing, and wine to those in bitter distress;
Is this the preferred thing to give someone that's depressed instead of a modern anti-depressant drug?

If you are a Christian, how do you feel about pharmaceutical drugs?

It's a proverb....not necessarily a recommendation of what God would want us to do.

We discuss all sorts of things on this forum concerning faith and the Bible. Many things are interpreted literally by believers and the interpretations vary. The issues mentioned in the Bible about health and the remedies for sickness are not often brought up on this forum. They can also be controversial (like in the example I gave) in light of what we know about medicine nowadays. I'm hoping that those that respond will tell us how they feel about the suggestions given in the Bible and about modern medicine with its broad range of meds used to fight illness.

But proverbs teach wisdom. What wisdom do you take away from this proverb?

I suppose I could suggest hitting yourself in the head with a bible, it is less painful than banging your head on a desk

I'll drink to that!

A few years back we had a Pharmacy guy give a talk about drug interaction and the dangers of overmedication in Seniors. In his opinion he stated that a couple of glasses of wine was preferable to some of the sleep aids and anti-anxiety medications he sold. Less side effects and just as effective.

All I can say is I was in major ditress when I recently gave birth, I'm thankful for the high power medications available, they worked like a charm to get my mind focused on birth, not the pain. Don't think things would have gone so well if the staff attempted to ply me with wine.

Does that mean my old Friend "Ned the Wino" was actually a very devout Bible following Christian and not a drunkard like I thought?
