Of course, the Native American tribes fought each other for land and the tribal boundaries would change as time went on.
For example, the Athabascan people from what is now Canada came south around 1400 AD and pushed the Ancestral Puebloans (the ancestors of the Hopi, Zuni, Acoma, and Pima tribes) off their land. The Athabascans then split into the Navajos and Apaches.
Besides, my Pilgrim anecstors were not really illegal immigrants because they were welcomed by the Native Americans, who had been decimated by European diseases they had picked from Portugese fishermen.
On the other hand, my English ancestors at Jamestown were not welcomed by the Native Americans, so I think it is fair to call them illegal immigrants. We were there a few months ago, and it was a very moving experience for me, just like it was for my wife when she visited Ellis Island.
